Actuarial Data Scientist San Jose, CA, Irvine, CA The Rivian Insurance team is revolutionizing insurance by transforming consumer experiences using our deep expertise in CASE (connected, autonomous, shared, electric) vehicles and integrating with the Rivian business system. We are seeking a passionate Actuarial Data Scientist who will help design and build industry leading predictive insurance models based on a large vehicle data sets that include lidar, radar, ultrasonic sensors, high accuracy GPS and cameras.
This is what you’ll do: · Champion both data science and actuarial breakthrough ideas while solving challenging real-world problems in a collaborative environment. · Use knowledge of signal processing, sensor physics, data cleansing and contextual data to retrieve relevant information for business insight analysis and modeling. · Use machine learning algorithms / deep learning / AI techniques to model driving behaviors and vehicle kinematics to solve business problems and deliver scalable pricing and claims solutions. · Provide actuarial support and justification for state automotive insurance rate filings and other auto insurance applications. · Keep abreast of recent and upcoming research (white papers, conferences/ webinars), leveraging best practices and new ideas, and testing possibilities within existing products.
This is what you’ll need: · Masters or Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Physics or equivalent experience · 3+ years of property and casualty insurance experience preferably in product management, underwriting or actuarial roles · Breadth and depth in machine learning algorithms/AI and best practices. This role includes both heavy thought leadership and hands on delivery. · Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in building Machine Learning solutions to solve real-world problems with scalability. We specialize in time series data modeling - so experience in this area is preferred · Knowledge of software development process, and ability to code in scripting languages for data manipulation, e.g., Python, Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn and SQL · Knowledge of Big Data infrastructure, e.g. Hadoop, Spark, and deep learning frameworks required e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, Torch, or Caffe · Ability to work in a startup environment with the initiative to identify opportunities beyond those directly assigned and the project management skills to execute those opportunities from concept to deployment.
