Responsibilities
POSITION OVERVIEW Covington is a high-performance work system plant with two Business Unit site with approximately 400 employees. This plant supports the Snacks, and Big G businesses. In F19, the plant produced 60MM EQC. This is a union free location. Covington operates under a 4-crew, 12hr shift rotating structure and is a plant that is fully Line Centric Activated. Covington’s work system leverages highly skilled technicians.
The West Operations Manager is expected to be an active member of the plant leadership team and help set the direction for the entire site. This position leads Operations for the West Department and interacts closely with the Big G and Snacks Business Unit teams. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
The West Operations Manager is responsible for operational execution for the West Department including the Puff Operation, Flake Operation, and Snacks Operation. Responsibility for the $100MM Plant Expansion with Project Roger will also become the accountability for this role following Commissioning, Verification, and Qualification in Q2 of F21. The Operations Manager is also a member of the site leadership team and will be expected to help set tactical as well as strategic direction for the site.
This position reports to the Covington Plant Manager. There are 9 employees that directly report to the West Operations Manager, and approximately 160 indirect reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead the development of a Zero Loss Culture in the department and demonstrate iLEAD and Engaging Leader behaviors.
- Develop short and long-term strategies to drive productivity, organizational effectiveness and improvements in key plant priorities and metrics.
- Lead operations department, including leading divisional efforts and influencing decisions that will impact the business and the plant.
- Guide, educate, coach, develop and motivate work group to achieve required human safety, food safety, and production results.
- Ensure effective interchange of information between operations department and support resources at the plant and within GMI.
- Foster a strong working partnership with all functions to support plant objectives.
- Create an environment where all employees are encouraged & developed to reach their full potential in meeting department/business goals.
- Provide business leadership that demonstrates commitment to department and plant goals on a day to day basis.
- Ensure the proper selection, training, development and motivation of the team to maximize current and future performance.
- Model the Company and Plant’s Behaviors and Values
- Support the plant’s Zero Loss Culture mission and lead gap closure and process standardization for West Operations
- Play to win as an active member of the Plant Senior Leadership Team and provide counsel and support on key Logistics tactical and strategic initiatives
- Direct and lead plant staff in the development, prioritization, and implementation of key initiatives in support of the plant Master Plan.

Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE - 5+ Years of Related Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment or other applicable experience
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively lead change
- Ability to develop and lead strategic initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with the floor including building positive employee relations and developing a Zero Loss Culture
- Effectively delivered results through others by managing salaried employees and/or leading cross-functional teams
- Solid business judgment including demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated understanding of technology (i.e. complexities of products, machinery, and costs)
- Good financial analysis and resource allocation skills; experience developing productivity pipeline is preferred
- Excellent coaching skills and ability to deliver effective feedback
