Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing and delivering high volume products.
  • Experience with CAD tools (CREO, Solidworks).
  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering across multiple related areas such as soft goods integration, plastic injection molding, foam casting, stamping metals, etc.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Soft goods experience and/or device experience.
  • Demonstrated statistical analysis skills.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills and ability to leverage project team to manage project priorities and technical resources.

About the job

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

As a Product Design Engineer, you'll lead product development to blend the properties of the soft good industry with Jacquard by Google. You'll use your knowledge and creative talent to set the direction of future soft goods, and drive development by working with leading fashion and apparel brands. You will participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You'll also work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and external teams in order to see parts through to manufacture.
You will help define architecture, provide design, test and validation requirements, oversee physical engineering design and work cross-functionally on system integration. You will also work cross-functionally with electrical design, operation and product engineering teams to deliver systems to production. Additionally, you will need to travel to support engineering builds.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Mechanical Engineering hardware development from concept into production.
  • Design for function, reliability, human factors, manufacturability and cosmetic requirements.
  • Engage in establishing technology roadmaps and creating proof of concept prototypes.
  • Lead all Mechanical Engineering related failure mode analysis, root cause diagnosis, and system-level problem solving on products and platforms, including those related to architecture (performance, thermal behavior), production (quality, failure analysis, manufacturing), and development (3D CAD, 2D drawings, TA, and overall system integration).
  • Represent the Mechanical Engineering team in meetings with cross-functional engineering teams. Manage vendors to ensure quality of technical deliverables.
