POSITION SUMMARY

The primary role is cosmetic product safety assessment and the toxicological review of raw materials and components to support the extensive ELC brand portfolio globally. The position requires a strong ability to work independently under tight timelines, attention to detail, accuracy, strong communication skills and teamwork with the safety, toxicology, formulation, regulatory, clinical and microbiology teams. The job is located in Markham, Ontario, Canada, is part of the Global Product Safety & Toxicology Team and will be reporting into Product Safety Assessment and Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) in Melville, New York.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver independent, efficient & thorough safety review of new and reformulated cosmetic products (internal and third party) through the assessment of safety information, claims, raw materials, components, test results and post-market information. Develop and optimize ELC sensitive information databases to ensure safety searches are accurate and complete. Independently assess products and recommend safety testing requirements and formulation changes to improve the product safety profile and ensure successful launches. Update, process and upload safety documentation to meet internal data integrity requirements. Direct, coach and train formulators to further develop safety & toxicology technical capabilities. (55%)
  • Initiate, own & lead the technical progression of key projects and initiatives to advance product safety capabilities, enhance team agility and accelerate innovation. (15%)
  • Independent raw material & component toxicological review to facilitate R&D innovation and maintain safety & regulatory requirements. Prepare the Consumer Product Safety Report (CPSR) for the Product Information File (PIF) and Product Safety Assessment documents as needed. (10%)
  • Coordinate and independently review safety testing results to recommend and determine next steps. Process safety testing data and reports. (5%)
  • Collaborate with the Global Product Safety and Toxicology Team to enhance product safety assessment, testing decisions and procedures. (5%)
  • Support the Product Safety and Tox team for any special projects including internal and external task forces and trade associations as required. (5%)
  • Train with Product Safety, Toxicology & Cosmetovigilance Teams on product, raw material and post market reviews. (5%)

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education Level: Masters or PhD in Toxicology

Minimum Years of Experience: 5-10 years of Product Safety & Toxicology Review

% Travel Time: 2-15%

Additional Job Specifications: Expertise in product safety & toxicological risk assessment, read across, data analysis, in vitro and in vivo testing approaches and emerging chemical issues is required. Office environment for computer based research work, strong experience with Microsoft Office applications and advanced search techniques. Knowledge of the Estee Lauder R&D system, MAC & other ELC makeup brand products, and familiarity with the Canadian Innovation Centre team would be assets. Safety Assessor training is preferred. Foreign language is a plus.
