Job Description

The Information Systems (IS) group builds robust cross platform web and desktop applications that enable Lucasfilm and ILM’s global studios to efficiently create movies and TV shows. The breadth of the IS portfolio of applications ranges from proprietary enterprise applications to global production tracking and digital asset management software.
The intern will work with IS software engineers on a high visibility digital asset management system hosted in AWS. Depending on skill sets and interest, candidates may contribute in the areas of application development, infrastructure, and/or research. Some of the technologies we use are: Python, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Celery, PostgreSQL, Solr, Redis, Backbone.js, Marionette, and AngularJS.
Internship Eligibility
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program· Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must be available to work full-time from May/June 2020 - August/September 2020.
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
Housing: The intern must be willing to provide their own housing for the duration of the internship in San Francisco, CA Graduate level student pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering or related field. Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate Level student or recent graduate (within 6 months of graduating) pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics or related field. Knowledge and/or experience with the following is beneficial:
  • Web servers: Nginx, Apache, uWSGI;
  • Data stores/tools: Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Redis, MongoDB, Solr;
  • Tools: Virtualenv, Buildout, py.test, Ansible, Selenium;
  • Async: Twisted, asyncio; and
  • Virtualization: AWS, VMWare, VirtualBox, Docker.
  • Data science and machine learning methodologies
  • Statistics and mathematical modelling
  • Data visualization
  • Python programming experience required
  • Proven ability to effectively extract useful information from large data sets
  • Experience with Javascript libraries such as: : jQuery, Backbone, Marionette, Angular, React, Gulp, Mocha, Sinon.JS
  • Knowledge of web frameworks: Flask/bottle, Django, Tornado, Pylons/Pyramid;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse personalities.
  • Strong time management skills; Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and in team settings with a positive, pro-active attitude.
Interns could work on a variety of projects, including:
Application Development
  • Participate in requirements discussions;
  • Build out feature requests and or enhancements;
  • Drill down to resolve issues or errors;
  • Participate in code reviews with fellow developers;
Infrastructure Development
  • Improve build and deploy systems
  • Enhance monitoring and alerts
Research & Development
  • Research machine learning applications for the digital asset management system in the following areas:
    • Asset categorization, object detection, text and audio identification and extraction, forensic/hidden watermarks, anomalous behavior detection
  • Build out proof of concepts

Required Education :
