Department:

The Role:

  • Manage the Machining Process design for new and existing products
  • Participate in feasibility studies for new machining projects
  • Work with suppliers and manage the Machining Fixture and cutting tool design & build for new and existing projects
  • Specify Capital equipment where required
  • Propose Machining concepts and cost profiles for New Projects.
  • Specify and Manage secondary processes for castings where applicable.
  • Manage the inventory of cutting tools and consumable products for the machining process.
  • Participate / Lead the system for spare / back up fixture components and cutting tools.
  • Lead the production team to develop machining processes that meet engineering specifications for new and existing projects
  • Design and manage the implementation of DOE’s on the machining process to identify optimal process parameters that meet Cpk requirements
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Trouble shoot the machining process to reduce the cycle time, downtime, and scrap
  • Participate / Lead root cause investigations into machining defects and downstream production scrap
  • Train production operators
  • Where necessary run production equipment
  • Set production tooling into the machining equipment when required
  • Participate in the creation of Advanced Quality Planning Documentation
  • Create standardized work / work instructions for the Machining process
  • Review first Piece and Last piece inspection documentation for machining quality and integrity.
  • Work with Equipment Engineering and vendors on fixture and equipment corrections
  • Identify and implement best practices for the machining and secondary processes
  • Promote a safe work environment
  • Ensure that the machining processes meet Environmental Regulations
  • Perform Process and Layered Audits on the Machining Process to ensure compliance
  • Where requested assist other departments in business objectives
  • Perform Tasks as requested by Tesla Management

Requirements

  • 1 to 5 years’ experience in production machining
  • BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and CNC machines
  • Understand and Use G-Code
  • GD&T and Print reading experience.
