Job Description
In 2017, Lime set out to revolutionize urban mobility. We are founded on a simple idea that all communities deserve access to smart, affordable mobility. Through the equitable distribution of shared scooters, bikes and transit vehicles, we aim to reduce dependence on personal automobiles for short distance transportation and leave future generations with a cleaner, healthier planet. Two years later our vehicles and fleet size may have changed, but our dedication to improving mobility has never been stronger. It’s the insatiable desire for innovation, so deeply woven into the fabric of our identity, that has helped us grow to over 700 employees and over 100 million rides spread across 5 continents. When you unlock a Lime, you unlock the joy and freedom of possibility. Whether you’re riding to school or work, to visit an old friend or to see a new city for the first time, every trip presents you with a new and unique experience. It’s an opportunity to take back the gift of time from being lost in traffic. Lime has the power to open up a city to you in beautiful and unexpected ways, and when you unlock one, you’re unlocking more than just a scooter or a bike. You’re unlocking life. Lime is seeking a Human Factors Research Intern to lead user-centered evaluations of our scooter fleet to inform future hardware design improvements. The paid internship will be for up to 6-months with flexibility to work full- or part-time remotely or from our San Francisco or Redwood City office. Field research will be conducted in San Jose, San Francisco, or Oakland, CA. You’ll play an important role in shaping improvements to our scooter vehicle design. You’ll work closely with your fellow Researchers, Hardware Product Management, Industrial Design, Warehouse Operations, and Scooter Mechanics to evaluate user perceptions and behaviors associated with a variety of electronic and mechanical elements of Lime’s scooters. You’ll design, conduct, analyze, and present the results of your research and provide actionable recommendations to the product and design team. This is an opportunity to gain valuable work experience to complement your classroom studies.
What You'll Do
- Design, conduct, analyze, and deliver hardware component research with Riders and Fleet Operators and provide actionable recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders
- Build relationships with cross-functional stakeholders in Product Management, Industrial Design, Operations, and Engineering to understand and prioritize their research needs
- Provide guidance and support the preparation of user testing activities (recruiting, test track design, logistics) and define technical specifications for hardware stimuli following experimental design best practices
- Conduct passive observational research with Riders, Juicers, Fleet Operators, and Mechanics to understand the implications of their natural behavior and formal/informal work practices for hardware design decisions and operational practices
About You
- Pursuing a graduate degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Psychology, or related field with a focus on physical products
- Experience (in industry or through coursework) conducting a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis to influence physical product development
- Strong qualitative and quantitative experimental design skills to independently design, conduct, and analyze comparative research studies with slight stimuli variations
- Demonstrated ability to translate research data into insights and insights into actionable recommendations for physical product design
- Excellent observational, communication (written, verbal, visual), and collaboration skills
- Professional maturity, strong work ethic, and desire to continuously learn and grow
