Job Description
The North Warning System (NWS) is a joint United States and Canadian radar system that includes 47 radar sites spanning the Arctic from Labrador to the Alaskan border. The NWS provides the capability to detect airborne threats across North America’s polar region, providing a command and control capability to the Canadian Air Deference Sector (CADS) of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).
Raytheon provides Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the NWS system including full care, custody, and control of the entire NWS and its components. This includes the radar sites; five logistics support sites (LSSs), a monitoring and control center, and a repair depot. Key activities include radar, electronic systems, power generation, and facilities maintenance and repair; logistics support; and remote monitoring and control.
Raytheon seeks Seasonal Wildlife Monitors to support the NWS system O&M Contract. These positions are temporary assignments and will be based out of the five (5) Logistics Support Sites (LSS) in Inuvik, Cambridge Bay, Hall Beach, Iqaluit or Goose Bay. These positions will support our summer projects and candidates will be hired to perform seasonal/casual assignments. This is not a full-time position.
Required Skills/Knowledge
• Must be in good physical condition and able to walk long distances while carrying equipment.
• Must be proficient in handling Fire Arns and pocess previous work experience in a remote wilderness setting with wildlife encounters ( ie: Hunter, trapper, guide outfitter, adventure tourism, camp safety officer / first aid attendant, etc )
• Must be Standard First Aid trained, including CPR Level A, and hold a valid certificate.
• Must possess a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).
• Must provide a Criminal Records Check
• Must be comfortable working in and flying to remote Arctic locations via helicopter and/or smaller fixed wing aircraft.
• Must possess serviceable safety boots that meet standards for workplace safety.
• Must be familiar with safety regulations and practices in the North.
• Ability to travel as part of a small team to and from locations
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including Fall Arrest Harness, as required
• Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse weather conditions in remote Arctic locations
• Ability to provide direction
• Adaptable and flexible
• Ability to communicate well in English

• Primary Threat: Polar Bears & Grizzly Bears
