Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through formal education and/or work-related experience to act as the lead underwriter of ultra-high net worth residential and consumer lending applications. This position is responsible for overseeing the mortgage and loan application process for Financial Advisors, Private Bankers and their clients. Ensures excellent customer service is provided, a profitable loan is originated and all standard underwriting guidelines are met. Analyzes complex, high-value situations or problems to which there are several alternative approaches. Devises innovative methods and makes relatively complex decisions within established policy using independent judgment. Works with a high level of autonomy and is accountable for ensuring the quality and reliability of work performed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Makes loan decisions for residential and consumer lending applications up to the loan amount authority established by the Board of Directors.
• Manage the mortgage application process from start to finish for Private Bankers and their high net worth clients.
• Underwrites credit package and prepares recommendations on loans outside of approval authority.
• Ensures compliance with Raymond James Bank, state, federal and (if applicable) agency and investor guidelines.
• Educates Financial Advisors, Private Bankers and their high net worth clients regarding residential mortgage loan transactions, their deal structures and documentation requirements.
• Reviews and analyzes real estate appraisals for acceptance in connection with residential loan transactions.
• Maintains knowledge of Raymond James Bank loan programs as well as secondary market investors’ underwriting and documentation requirements.
• Makes deal structure recommendations to high net worth clients in a calm and professional manner. Works to identify alternatives when necessary in order to exceed expectations of clients throughout the process.
• Establishes strong relationships and gains the trust of Financial Advisors, Mortgage Consultants and their high net worth clients.
• Interacts professionally with clients, associates and Financial Advisors to provide professional customer service upholding the Service 1st philosophy.
• Analyzes tax returns, financial statements and reviews of Title Commitments.
• Works directly with Lending Manager(s) while exercising independent judgement of work functions. May interact with Lending Manager(s) on due diligence with files purchased on the secondary market.
• Communicates directly with high net worth clients to address and resolve escalated issues and/or concerns.
• Reviews and analyzes procedures for more efficient and cost effective ways of handling the workflow.
• Initiates policies as dictated by management.
• Performs or supervises activities requiring knowledge of technical, specialized or professional skills.
• Performs day-to-day monitoring of workflow while maintaining good relationships with customers, sales, support staff and vendors in order to exceed expectations.
• May assist with onboarding new associates and oversee an efficient and knowledgeable staff through coaching, mentoring, and personal leadership.
• Keeps management apprised of developments as they relate to personnel, workflow and special projects. Communicates and coordinates changes in policy and procedures that affect other departments.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Underwriting regulations and policies, creditor financial analysis techniques, investor requirements and processes.
• Advanced knowledge of self-employed income analysis.
• The appraisal, credit report, income, title and insurance documentation processes.
• Unique vestings such as irrevocable, trust and property in corporate entities.
• Prior credit authority delegation preferred.
• Commercial credit experience preferred.
• Principles, practices, concepts and procedures of underwriting, mortgages, banking and financial markets and products.

Skill in:

• Data analysis.
• Critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
• Providing a high level of service in the spirit of Raymond James’ Service 1st commitment.
• Organizational skills including a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective oral and written communications to convey details on various mortgage loan products and processes.
• Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications.

• Conduct transactions for high profile and high net worth clients.
• Research and analyze financial statements, perform complex tax return analysis, interpret findings and prepare reports of financial position and credit worthiness.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration and a minimum of ten (10) years of residential mortgage and consumer underwriting experience, with at least three (3) of those years working with high net worth clients.

• An equivalent combination of education, training or experience as approved by Human Resources.

Licenses/Certifications:

• NMLS licensure may be required.
• Completion of formal credit training preferred.
