Job Description

The American Express Brand is our most important asset, now unified under one global brand strategy. OnBrand, American Express’ internal creative agency within Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM), will play an integral role in delivering against an ambitious goal to be the most creative department in the Fortune 500. We are responsible for bringing the brand to life in marketing initiatives across various channels, business units, and markets.

The Manager/Senior Manager, Design for OnBrand will lead the design development and execution across several key pieces of business, as well as sitting as a part of an agile scrum team – a fast-paced environment where you’ll collaborate with business, product, copy, research, and engineering counterparts to define business objectives, create and test designs, and leverage research and insights to inform the next sprint cycle.

You will work closely with, and support, the Creative Director to ensure the delivery of best-in-class creative and on-brand marketing communications, with management opportunities as the team scales. To be successful in this role, you will need an expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, hands-on design experience across a variety of digital marketing assets, and a love for design systems and brand consistency.

Key responsibilities:
  • Partner with the Creative Director and designers to deliver best-in-class creative.
  • Conceptualize and create pixel-perfect, data-driven designs for sprint cycles that enhance the quality of the products and put the user at the center.
  • Collaborate in an agile environment with internal leads to build engaging customer experiences that address unmet needs with empathetic, research-backed, and technically feasible solutions.
  • Be a passionate advocate for the user and design thinking methodology, providing creative guidance to internal partners and helping to build a strong culture that values creative thought leadership.
  • Work with developers to deliver coding for web/digital marketing assignments.
  • Thorough knowledge of American Express Brand Strategy and Visual Identity.
Qualifications
  • A deep curiosity and passion for great design, current creative and technology trends, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong portfolio highlighting digital experiences and visual design executions, informed by solid design fundamentals and evidence of systemic design thinking.
  • Superior knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, and InVision, and working in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Fluency in all areas of visual design with exceptional skills in typography, composition, and experience with design language systems and designing within content management systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in design-related field and 10+ years of experience at an agency, in-house agency, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment a plus.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript a plus.
  • Knowledge of Adobe After Effects or similar programs a plus.
