About this role

The Melbourne office of OpenTable is a highly productive engineering center, delivering high quality software in an agile manner adhering to product and business needs.

We are seeking a leader for this high-performance engineering team to build out next-generation feature sets in our flagship Guest Center restaurant products, enabling enterprise-level business operations, providing extensive business insights for restaurant owners, and improving restaurant product lifecycle support.

As a leader of the Melbourne engineering team, you will significantly and directly impact revenue growth for both OpenTable and our network of restaurants, and further improve our primary value proposition to consumers by making it easier to get reservations at the best restaurants.

You Will

• Use your technical expertise to quickly come up to speed with OpenTable’s business, high level architecture and technology concepts.
• Build working relationships, trust and influence with people in various areas, be they in Engineering, Product, Support and Sales across multiple office locations (San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Mumbai, and Melbourne itself).
• Map business strategy to technology solutions that improve our products and services in a scalable, long-term manner.
• Shape and champion a continuous delivery, automation-focused engineering culture.
• Strategically manage the Melbourne engineering roadmap, seeking technical projects that align well with business vision.
• Be a collaborative leader, capable of driving consensus and balancing product and technology needs with longer term objectives.
• Perform data-driven decision making, informed by a passion for understanding and defining new metrics.
• Help our team be happy, productive, and growing, with a strong commitment to mentoring individuals' and managers' growth, and bringing the office to the next level as a technology center.

What we are looking for

• Proven track record of having driven technology development in products which have millions of users, in product focused companies, or drove millions of dollars in revenue, or both.
• Obsessive about customers and users, whether they are the ‘real’ customers of the company, or internal partners who are dependent on the projects owned by your team (e.g. Product, Support, Sales, other engineering teams).
• Passionate about engineering excellence, and building an automation‐focused culture, both in testing and build/deploy
• Experience working within a distributed SOA architecture
• Deep technology experience - you should be ‘still an engineer’ yourself.
• Strong knowledge of your favorite programming language (We use node.js for front-end, Java/Spring C#/.NET Core back-end)
• You will be leading a full-stack team, familiarity with modern web application technologies & frameworks such as Angular, React etc. is a plus
• Experience working on growth or acquisition-focused teams (extra points if B2B focused)
• 10+ years experience in software engineering working on such live production systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Flexibility to travel to our San Francisco headquarters and Los Angeles location.
