Job Description

Company Description

Dropbox is the world’s first smart workspace that helps people and teams focus on the work that matters. With more than 600 million registered users across 180 countries, we’re on a mission to design a more enlightened way of working. Dropbox is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, and has 12 offices around the world.

Team Description

At Dropbox, we aim to put the customer at the center of everything we do. With over 500 million users, the Customer Experience (CX) team is at the forefront of simplifying how our users and customers interact with Dropbox. We focus on solutions that work for our customers as well as implementing technologies that will simplify our customers’ journey. We bring the customer voice across the organization to ensure Dropbox delivers the best possible customer experience.

Role Description

As our internal Interaction Designer you will be filling the role of a behavioral scientist in a design environment. Your primary mission will be to understand our business needs and customer experience requirements and transform that understanding into user-focused and intuitive experiences, interfaces, platforms for mobile and web.

You're actively involved in defining customer experience strategy. Thinking in terms of design systems and making rational design decisions. You obsess over details and are excited to polish until your work is pixel-perfect. Constantly pushing your limits and searching for opportunities to become better. Your team collaboration skills are unparalleled. You thrive in an environment with short feedback loops.

Responsibilities

The primary focus will be on customers interacting with Dropbox for support; both assisted and unassisted. This will be a combination of improving existing experiences, designing new experiences and integrating with 3rd party providers.

Since you will be working closely with product and service owners, software engineers and technical program managers as well as other key stakeholders, you must be a team player.

Your tasks will include the creation of experience maps, user scenarios, mockups and flows which reduce friction and deliver higher value to customers.

Other tasks will include:

  • Designing user-experiences from low-fidelity sketches to hi-fidelity pixel perfect mockups.
  • Validating ideas and designs using split A/B tests and product performance.
  • Measuring recently released features to establish benchmarks and to identify potential areas of improvement.
  • Staying abreast of UX trends and looking for creative ideas and inspiration in parallel analogous worlds.
  • Creating rapid prototypes to validate design concepts with partners and customers.
  • Highly detailed communication of design principles + direction, as well as design specifications to engineers

Requirements

  • You're an experienced whisperer, and you can distill complicated problems into simple and elegant solutions.
  • An understanding of what makes an experience good or bad is critical. You can think through user problems, find reasonable solutions, mock them up in detail, and work with engineers to build them.
  • We love making things beautiful and hope you feel the same. You have a deep understanding of composition, balance, symmetry, and white space.
  • You have a highly refined aesthetic sense and can both work within and expand the Dropbox style.
  • You're a self-starter who actively seeks ways to make the Dropbox experience both visually appealing and easy to use.
  • You look for opportunities to solve problems in unusual and innovative ways.
  • You understand the technical limitations and liberties behind your decisions and have enough chops to communicate your ideas to our engineers.
  • Experience designing for the web and understanding how to apply both form and function within it while maintaining simplicity.
  • You construct your own iconography, set your own guidelines, and build easy-to-navigate documents.
  • You want to work on a team of the world's best software designers and engineers, creating engaging experiences customer use every single day!
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent practical work experience in Design

Benefits and Perks

  • 100% company paid individual medical, dental, & vision insurance coverage
  • 401k + company match
  • Market competitive total compensation package
  • Free Dropbox space for your friends and family
  • Wellness Reimbursement
  • Generous vacation policy
  • 10 company paid holidays
  • Volunteer time off
  • Company sponsored tech talks (technology and other relevant professional topics)
