- Lead and develop a team of interconnect engineers in support of achieving targets in the design, FOA, and deployment of CRAN and OneFiber transport architectures.
- Work with RF and Implementation teams to select, secure and engineer CRAN Hub locations
- Devise new complex transport project designs that optimize path, switch, and vendor diversity while employing a best cost approach using optical and microwave transport as well as leased solutions.
- Work with West Territory and Headquarters Transport staff to develop new technology transport design and equipment standards for deployment. Lead transport team in engineering and implementation of such.
- Provide design and implementation support for data routers, Ethernet backhaul interconnect and other supporting data systems. Provide a roadmap and guidelines for products, features, and hardware configurations to ensure technologically superior, operationally efficient and cost effective growth and new deployment of systems.
- Design and project manage the installation of both dark and lit Fiber Optic Rings.
- Maintain an accurate circuit inventory; monitor usage data from the traffic engineering reports and use this data to determine capacity requirements. Specific responsibilities include: developing and tracking capital requirements and forecasting growth; ensuring optimum equipment utilization / efficiency, redundancy and diversity; procuring required equipment and overseeing installation, acceptance and implementation of equipment.
- Lead, develop and manage, on an ongoing basis, regional-level capital and expense budgets relating to interconnect, backhaul, technology evolution and related projects in conjunction with Sub-Market Engineering, other Area Planning teams and Headquarters Planning.
- Assist in compiling/forecasting projected backhaul circuit requirements/costs.
- Perform audits of Facility/Transport database for accuracy and provides utilization reports to management. Work in conjunction with Area/HQ planning and transport Teams to engineer and implement inter-Market facilities requirements.
- Work with Area Direct Telecom analysts and Sub-Market teams to identify and reconcile vendor billing disputes.
- Proactively manage the progress of regional expense reduction initiatives, including verification via invoice reporting.
- Lead the implementation and development of job-aids and tools that document internal methods and procedures.
- Develop engineering, system performance, and operations policies and procedures.
- Work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed. Overnight travel may be required.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four of more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in telecommunications transport engineering.
- Knowledge in the following platforms and/or technologies: Telecom experience including: CRAN, Optical Networks, DWDM/CWDM, Cell site routers.
- Knowledge of data communications including data network design, routers, switches, hubs, Ethernet, TCP/IP, MPLS.
- Willingness to travel.
- A valid Driver’s license.
Even better if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or Engineering.
- Switch Engineering experience.
- A CCNA certification.
- Experience with the Telcordia Granite Inventory (formerly Xpercom/Xng) circuit inventory system.
- Experience engineering and implementing multiple node optical networks including one or more of the following optical equipment vendors: Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel, Cisco, Fujitsu, and Ciena.
- Working knowledge and experience with SevOne traffic data collection system or another traffic statistics reporting package.
- Working knowledge and experience with Navis INC and ALU 5620 SAM network management systems.
- Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Excellent analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Experience in contract negotiations.
- xperience with cost analysis including NPV & development of business cases for leased vs. owned fixed network systems.
