The Role

We are hiring a seasoned risk leader to manage and own our Manual Underwriting (financial statement review) and customer onboarding process. In this role, you will have the ability to shape the direction of both Manual Underwriting and account KYC procedures and processes. Our ideal candidate will be a people leader responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of Underwriting and Onboarding Associates. You will be expected to drive process efficiency, ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements, and lead changes for process and tooling improvements for the team. This role involves cross-functional partnership with our Sales, Customer Experience, Engineering, and Product teams to drive organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Own the underwriting framework (procedures, processes) to assess the credit quality of applicants for our business credit card
  • Manage review of bank statements and financial statements to underwrite Brex customers
  • Review existing underwriting process and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Further develop and optimize our KYC and AML policies and procedures
  • Work closely with our Data Science, Compliance, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Experience teams to optimize product enhancement and development
  • Contribute to the ongoing learning and success of the team and the company by sharing knowledge through mentorship, collaboration, and documentation of processes
  • Ensure best in class customer experience for applicants by adhering to SLAs.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • 5+ years of experience in your field
  • Deep understanding and experience in financial statement and bank underwriting, including business, finance, and accounting concepts
  • Knowledge, experience, and passion for KYC and AML, including an understanding of the regulatory landscape
  • Strong communication skills, analytical rigor, attention to detail, and strategic thought leadership
  • Customer centric and passionate about thinking through customer needs in counterbalance to risk exposures
  • Ability to communicate technical problems in an elegant and tactful way
  • FinTech, Big 4, Accounting or other financial experience preferred
