Overview

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing technical support under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The technician works primarily in the specialty outpatient pharmacy, but may also support any other satellite location. Technician’s duties include preparing oral take home medications, manufacturing and compounding pharmaceutical products, inventory management, utilizing the various equipment and technology available in the pharmacy, performing drop-off and pick-up window duties, and performing various quality control tasks as assigned. In addition, the level II technician will participate in training and orientation of new technicians and pharmacy students.

Job Location:

This job will start at our Longwood campus (450 Brookline Ave) and transition to Methuen, MA as the specialty pharmacy opens Spring of 2020.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and dispensing of oral specialty and outpatient medications
  • Inventory management of oral and specialty medications
  • Utilization and understanding of the technology used to support the operations of the specialty/outpatient retail pharmacy operations
  • Quality control/quality assurance monitoring
  • Orientation/training of specialty/outpatient pharmacy staff
  • Special projects and process improvement activities

Completes competency assessment

  • Completes annual competencies as assigned
  • Completion of continuing education as required to maintain license and certification
  • Keeps up-to-date on policies and procedures and ensures compliance

Demonstrates critical thinking

  • Demonstrates flexibility and ability to change and set priorities, adapt to new situations, and accept additional responsibilities based on the changing needs of the work setting
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize references and/or drug information sources
  • Demonstrates the ability to resolve problems within their scope of practice

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level degree program for pharmacy or related field
  • Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy Registration as Pharmacy Intern or Pharmacy Technician.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification required, with the exception of pharmacy students
  • Two to five years of pharmacy technician experience with at least one year of outpatient/retail/specialty experience
