We design products, services, environments, and digital experiences for organizations seeking new ways to provide value to their customers. IDEO London are looking for an interaction designer who is equally passionate about designing elegant user experiences as much as using systems thinking and human-centered design as a source of inspiration to solve complex problems.
As an Interaction Designer at IDEO you will work collaboratively, creatively, and flexibly within interdisciplinary teams and with our clients on a variety of projects that integrate digital designs into spaces, brands, services and products. Working at IDEO means you’ll tackle all aspects of the design process from user research to physical and digital prototyping to helping tell the project story to the client.
You may be a creative thinker with a passion for pixels, love to make graphics move and have a knack for crafting compelling stories keep reading OR you might like to use digital tools to design and build human-centered products and services - we are reviewing applications across the entire spectrum of Interaction Design.
Why is this role important for IDEO’s work?
Interaction Designers have impact by creatively expressing the structure and behavior of interactive systems in service of the people who use them. As an Interaction Designer you will be accountable for the visible portions of an experience: the interfaces and touch points that convey information and move people through an experience.
Once you are here you will:
- Collaborate with designers with different backgrounds such as industrial designers, mechanical engineers and other interaction designers to develop a holistic design for our clients.
- Work globally with clients and other IDEO studios
- Learn on the edges of your field and continuously broaden your ‘T’
- Identify and solve problems for clients in many categories and industries such as healthcare, automotive, finance and consumer products
- Create “looks like/works like” prototypes that communicate a design and help tell a project’s story to potential user and client stakeholders.
- Design websites, apps, and a wide variety of other digital/physical experiences with the end user in mind.
- Champion the impact of design on everyday life

Depth in one or more of these areas:
- Systems - logically visualizing complex systems, user interaction flows, and beautiful user interfaces. Experience with prototyping tools including Framer, Figma, Principle, Flinto, Invision, Principle, AE, Keynote, etc.
- Service - designing interactions as part of a greater service; being thoughtful about how the orchestration of the service may impact how someone will interact with a specific touchpoint.
- Visual - best practices of graphic design (grid, hierarchy, color, typography, etc) to create beautiful and engaging visual user interfaces. Design tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar.
- Motion - 2D/3D animation and dynamic elements that enhance a digital experience. Experience using tools such as after effects or cinema 4d.
- Digital Products - experience building, prototyping, and continually evolving digital products throughout the product lifecycle.
Relevant experience & mindset
Experience
- Experienced interaction designer with a portfolio of work across a variety of digital media.
- A Bachelor / Masters degree in Interaction Design / Human-Computer Interaction or equivalent relevant work experience
- Experience in concept ideation, design strategy, digital prototyping, and combining graphic design and 3D animation.
- Ability to tell compelling project stories to clients.
- Experience working with designers from different backgrounds and integrating your design ideas with theirs.
- Experience with a variety of graphic design and interactive tools including Figma, Sketch & CSS, Illustrator, HTML, and Aftereffects. Bonus points for experience designing apps.

- Communication: You have strong verbal and visual presentation skills, as well as an articulate point of view about design. You understand the value of design within a business context.
- Prototyping: You are ready to learn from failure, embrace an iterative process and you understand that success comes sooner with trial and error. You have experience in delivering both low and high fidelity prototypes.
- Openness: Designers need to be flexible and open-minded. You are optimistic, generative, and open to new ideas and ways of working
- Human-centered: You can articulate a human-centered approach to design and are comfortable going out into the world for inspiration. You understand basic human-centered design philosophy, embrace ambiguity, and want to continually evolve design methodologies.
