Carrier is seeking a highly motivated IoT System Architect to provide technical leadership to our global teams that develop Carrier’s IoT solutions. These solutions require the coordination of the development of cloud, mobile app, and embedded controls technologies. This individual would be responsible for architecting our overall solution and defining the technologies to achieve these solutions. The Architect will work with Product Marketing to partition system requirements amongst the cloud, mobile, and embedded controls.

The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to adhoc assignments as needed.

  • Provide technical and strategic guidance to teams that are developing software for cloud, mobile, and embedded products
  • Participate with Carrier’s Marketing organization to help define the technology roadmap for future Connected Home features and products
  • Define system level and interface requirements between components in Carrier’s software ecosystem
  • Define and lead integration strategy of software components
  • Lead debug/root cause analysis of system level integration issues
  • Allocate system level requirements to individual software components/teams
  • Document and maintain overall system architecture
  • Identify nonfunctional and quality of service requirements that influence application design, trade-offs in performance, availability, scalability, serviceability, and cost.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Responsible for large projects or multiple tasks within functional discipline
  • Makes significant contribution to their team by applying their knowledge of the discipline
  • Works with moderate guidance on projects
  • Provides strategic direction within functional discipline

TYPICAL EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of software architecture/development experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS
  • Experience with development on popular public cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of scalable logical and physical database design
  • Experience in design, implementation, and deployment of cloud applications
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise architecture modeling tools like IBM Rational Enterprise Software Architect, Rhapsody, etc.
  • Experience with latest cyber security techniques and best practices.
  • Exposure to mobile application development and several app models like Hybrid, Native, and/or Web Apps
  • Exposure to cross platform mobile application development tools like Kony, Xamarin, Phonegap, Titanium, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of UI and UX development processes, storyboards, wireframes, and rapid prototyping tools – this one might be a “good to have” rather than a necessity?
  • Familiarity of design/development of embedded systems
  • Understanding of C, C++ and JAVA programming languages
  • Experience with various protocols at layer-3 and up (such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, HTTP(s), AMQP, MQTT, etc.)
  • Experience with socket programming with Linux or embedded systems
  • Linux/RTOS experience
  • Experience with software architecture and design patterns
  • Familiarity with debugging
  • Experience with configuration/change management systems such as JIRA, PVCS or Rational Team Concert
