DescriptionDevelop, implement and maintain leading edge safety programs and policies for Beckman Coulter Biomedical GmbH to ensure regulatory compliance with state and company regulations. Work with the Management Team in driving a Safety Culture which engages associates and improves EHS performance.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Provide EHS support to operational, R&D and administrative personnel
• Work closely with the General Manager and the Operations Director on EHS strategy to drive action plans
• Develop and manage local Procedures and initiatives to promote a proactive health and safety culture, including processes designed to increase employee involvement, education and recognition by participating in daily tailgate safety meetings, incident investigations, occupational health matters and compliance auditing
• Develop, plan, and conduct innovative safety training programs to meet regulatory requirements and exceed corporate safety goals
• Coordinate new associate safety orientation training
• Review and interpret injury data to identify trends and/or causal factors, such as behavioral factors, incomplete or faulty decision-making or a weakness in existing policies or practices or regulations
• Support and train in the investigation of accidents/injuries and monitor the implementation of corrective measures to prevent reoccurrences
• Conduct site audits/inspections to enforce adherence to county regulatory laws, and Danaher policies governing occupational safety and health compliance
• Look to educate associates in unsafe acts or conditions, establish associate/manager relationships, and pro-actively solving potential safety issues.
• Oversee the risk assessment process for jobs including where duties, location, and/or equipment changes occur
• Act as liaison with OSHA regulatory authorities and for EPA
• Review safety of proposed new chemicals, chemical processes, equipment and machinery.
• Assist in associate safety equipment and ordering
• Assist in the development of monthly EHS reports
• Coordinate chemical SDS database and waste disposal as required
• OSHA and Workers' Compensation:
o Manage workers' compensation investigations, recordkeeping, completion of OSHA 300 log and internal reporting requirements
• Industrial Hygiene:
o Responsible for industrial hygiene monitoring and compliance.
o Manage medical monitoring to meet requirements.
o Review SDS's for potential chemical exposures and monitor and/or implement programs
• Emergency Preparedness:
o Coordinate emergency preparedness plans
o Manage emergency contact information
o Serve as one of the Company emergency coordinators. Must be available on short notice to respond to emergencies and/or questions, including off-hour shifts
o Respond to calls involving external emergency response agencies.
Job Requirements Qualifications• Master/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum 5 years Environmental, Safety, and Health experience ideally in a manufacturing environment • Certified Safety Professional or equivalent preferred• Possess a working knowledge of OSHA requirements • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with a variety of people at various technical and management levels• Advanced computer skills (work processing, spreadsheets, graphics, statistical tools, etc.)• Demonstrated proficiency in time, organization, and project management• Demonstrated ability to coordinate a cross function team of safety coordinators• Proven experience working independently, making sound decisions with minimal supervision• Previous success working in a fast-paced environment fulfilling multiple priorities• Demonstrated ability to initiate action to resolve problems and improve processes• Fluent skills in German and English language• Ability to quickly establish significant credibility, trust and support with all levels of the organization incl. peers, subordinates and senior management• Takes action quickly/ effectively in a fast-paced environment completing tasks on-time/ high quality. Uses kaizen, root cause and problem solving to drive continuous improvement• Communicates openly and clearly, understands, influences and engages others to get input and buy- in.
