VMware Telecommunications Consulting Solutions Architect – Intelligent Operations

Overview of the position:

• Support VMware’s mission to build strong relationships with Telecommunications Service Providers and design innovative solutions to help them achieve their business goals.
• Promote VMware’s Telecommunications Service Provider Intelligent Operations and Service Delivery vision, solutions, products and technologies.
• Be the subject matter expert (SME) on solution design, product and technology positioning, technical sales strategy and competitive strategy.
• Build strong customer relationships with executive and key decision makers. Increase VMware mindshare and influence technology strategy.
• Lead and manage advanced field engineering projects & engagements.
• Help VMware field sales teams to become more effective & efficient selling Intelligent Operations and Service Delivery solutions, products and technologies.
• Serve as a thought leader internally (within VMware) to increase Telecommunications Service Provider relevance, drive cross-business unit (BU) product and technology development and create new opportunities for innovation.
• Work with strategic ecosystem partners to evangelize and promote VMware’s vision, build new differentiating solutions and enhance existing products & technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Directly engage with Telecommunications Service Providers in technical pre-sales activities.
• Act as a business unit technical subject matter expert on VMware Intelligent Operations & Service Delivery products and technologies.
• Develop and manage executive and key technical decision maker level relationships.
• Design and architect Intelligent Operations solutions that meet Service Provider technical and business requirements.
• Present and promote VMware’s Telecommunications Service Provider vision and strategy in existing and prospective customer meetings and executive briefings.
• Enable Service Providers and VMware account teams on Intelligent Operations and Services Delivery products and technology capabilities.
• Manage and respond to RFI/RFPs. Advise account teams on related technical strategy, messaging and technical competitive positioning.
• Lead and manage customer field engineering engagements, including proof of concepts (PoCs), early field trials (EFTs), beta programs and joint innovation projects.
• Work with Service Providers to define and gather technical and business requirements.
• Document technical requirements and collaborate with VMware Product Development teams to identify potential solutions and influence product roadmap and delivery.
• Work closely with VMware ecosystem partners to design differentiating solutions, deliver technical enablement and jointly engage in pre-sales activities.
• Create and deliver new technical sales tools that increase technical sales process efficiency and productivity.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience working with Telecommunications Service Providers in a consulting pre-sales, design and/or architecture role.
• 5+ years of experience with Telecommunications Service Provider OSS, BSS and/or Analytics products and solutions.
• 5+ years of experience designing large scale Mobile and/or Wireline network & cloud solutions.
• 3+ years of experience participating in all aspects of large-scale distributed systems architecture projects including ideation, identification, planning, requirements, design, development, testing, implementation and cost estimation.
• 3+ years of experience designing complex multi-vendor, multi-platform integrated solutions.
• 3+ years of experience designing & deploying VMware virtualization, cloud management and cloud operations products & technologies.
• Ability to build and manage executive and technical decision maker relationships.
• Deep knowledge on Telecommunications Service Provider industry technical & business trends.
• Demonstrated ability to present on complex technical topics to customer executives and key technical decision makers.
• Demonstrated ability to build high value technical collateral such as technology whitepapers and technical design guides.
• Must be able to manage complex customer facing technical projects.
• Expertise in designing test & validation process, execution and documenting results.
• Must have a solid understanding of the competitive landscape, competitor offerings and experience building and executing competitive strategy.
• Experience designing and deploying Kubernetes container services delivery solutions & architectures.
• Must have UNIX/Linux administrator level skills and experience.
• Must have experience with Python.
• Experience with Terraform and Ansible – highly preferred.
• Technical certifications related to networking, cloud and/or security – preferred.
• Graduate degree in a technical discipline – preferred.
