    Responsibilities

    The EKG Technician (internally titled "ECG Technician II") provides technician and administrative support for the Summit Cardiology Clinic. The EKG Technician:

    • Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms.
    • Obtains vital signs and current medication information from patients.
    • Applies and teaches patients regarding external monitors (Holter, Event, CAM).
    • Provides preliminary monitor reports and notifies physician and/or nurse of urgent/emergent findings.
    • Performs electrocardiogram (ECG) testing on patients according to established standards and practices.

    Qualifications

    Education Background

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
    • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • BLS/ACLS/CPR certification required
    • Current certification by the National Alliance of Cardiovascular Technologists or active pursuit of certification strongly preferred.

    Work Experience

    • At least one year of experience in a cardiology setting working with pacemakers and other cardiac devices required.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Good communication and documentation skills EMR (EPIC) knowledge preferred.
    • Knowledge of defibrillator equipment setup and use.
    • Device knowledge and continuing education.
    • Knowledge of EKG examination, diagnostic and stress testing procedures.
    • Ability to establish effective working relationships and to communicate effectively.

    Physical Abilities

    Able to safely position and transfer patients, stock supplies, and move equipment.
    Able to move freely about the department.

    Physical Demand Level: Medium
    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    Lift / Carry

    20 to 50 pounds occasionally

    10 to 25 pounds frequently

    up to 10 pounds constantly

    As required, must be able to-

    Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders

    Push and Pull

    Perform fine motor functions

    Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
