National Grid is hiring a Senior Supervisor, Customer Gas Connections for our Gas Connections team in Canarsie Brooklyn, NY.
The Senior Supervisor will be the primary point of accountability for the supervision of Field Inspectors responsible for designing Gas Growth projects. Accountabilities will include review and approval of gas project designs, and work request estimating reviews. The role will be the liaison with municipalities on design questions and road impact, training and process guidance, work flow assignment, monitoring and reporting.
This role will also provide technical expertise and support from an engineering perspective to ensure safe and effective operation, maintenance and enhancement of National Grid’s gas distribution network in accordance with the corporate strategic plan. Duties will include including standard gas capacity assessments, system operating procedure reviews, facility/integrity assessment, and/or participation in small and large scale engineering projects.
• Supervise a technical bargaining workforce responsible for designing gas mains and service requests. Provide coaching, counseling and team building to
insure tasks are carried out in an efficient manner.
• Responsible for reviewing, submitting, and receiving SOP (standard operating procedure) approval for new gas main work. Work with gas engineering and the GSO (Gas System Operations) to obtain the approval prior to releasing project to construction.
• Help train department personnel on processes, procedures, and systems related to gas project design and operations.
• Works with other business stakeholders to support the fulfillment of all applicable external customer requests. This may include attending local planning, construction, or site meetings with customers or internal stakeholders.
• Supervise the day to day operations of the Field Inspectors and primarily the functions performed by the group, including managing KPI attainment as determined by the department and associated tariff’s.
• Plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes for main and service construction work.
• Ensure team comply with safety standards, policies and processes in order to ensure a safe working environment and minimize risk for all staff Build good working relationships with internal & external customers as part of the end to end customer connections process, and manage the day to day relationship in order to understand their requirements and deliver appropriate solutions, in line with National Grid policies and processes.
• Utilize the necessary NGrid Systems to manage jobs, invoice customers and investigate and solve customer inquiries.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with other business units in order to share best practice in customer / operations support and understand and challenge business decisions.
• Provide team lead support to facilitate concepts, processes, improvements, and best practices. Monitor performance of staff including issues relating to sickness, discipline and poor standards of work in order to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and effectively.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred (in business, engineering, technology) and 5+ years related supervisory work experience.
• Demonstrates a consistent approach in dealing with people and taking personal responsibility for addressing problems and concerns.
• Ability to understanding National Grid’s gas policies, processes, and systems, especially when applying resolution to customer inquiries or requests.
• Strong interpersonal and problem resolution skills including negotiations and communications
• Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
