Department Overview

In 2004, the firm established its presence in the Indian market by opening the Bain Capability Center (BCC) in New Delhi. Over the years, the BCC has played a critical role in augmenting Bain's case teams globally with analytics and research across all industries, for corporate cases, client development, private equity diligence as well as Bain intellectual property. On the back of a highly successful model, there is significant need and enthusiasm to expand the group globally into what is now known as the Bain Capability Network (BCN).

Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurially oriented person to help define, set up, and drive the path to build the BCN with nodes in North America, EMEA, and India. The key goal is to manage the onsite BCN talent and work closely with the Service Line Heads to develop and deploy the global delivery model for various products and practices where it can be beneficial.

Core responsibilities include:

  • PMO for all North America and EMEA onsite talent across the employee lifecycle including developing the talent strategy, recruiting, coaching, professional development, and staffing
  • Be a sparring partner for Product and Practice teams and help India based COEs / Service line identify needs / gaps to serve the product and practice teams
  • Build a case and advocate for the BCN COEs as appropriate. There is significant interest in the BCN Global Center of Expertise model given our early success in Pricing, Cost transformation, PEG, CPG, etc. and the PMO role is a strategic priority to ensure we are building on this to scale effectively

Essential Functions

Client work:

  • For new team members and initiatives:
    • Coach expert hires on Bain ways of working, engage closely and oversee/manage work and interactions on initial few cases
    • Ensure close collaboration and alignment of onsite and offshore team
    • Review project workplan, deliverables, prioritization, staffing, etc.
    • Review materials prior to intermediate and final delivery
    • Ensure adherence to deadlines and delivering high quality output
    • Participate in client calls etc. to pre-brief/debrief and coach team members
  • In steady state:
    • Advise the case team manager and be available reactively should the BCN onsite members need guidance on client materials
    • Participate in SteerCos; guide global Centers of Excellence on topics to cover and help with tricky situations
  • Business Development: beyond specific client engagement
    • Collaborate with Bain partners and manager to understand scope of work provide advice on appropriate CoE role, team size, structure, timelines etc.
    • Engage in ongoing dialog with key stakeholders to understand future and changing needs and influence team priorities, capabilities and structure accordingly
    • Spearhead innovation that can lead to improved or new offerings; guide team to build MVPs and help socialize
    • Proactively suggests solutions; drive new demand for CoE, within and beyond current scope
    • Work closely with Product Manager to develop budget and be a thought partners to deepen ability to leverage GCoE based deployment model
  • Talent Strategy
    • Play a lead role in developing talent strategy plan; define roles and hire and induct talent working closely with HR
    • Work with HR in hiring; career path; compensation recommendation etc. aligned with other similar groups at Bain
    • Ensure clear and consistent support needs from global/local HR, TSG etc.
  • Staffing, Training, and Professional Development:
    • Provide coaching on problem solving, work-planning, data analysis etc. as required
    • Develop and ensure appropriate training
    • Collaborate with SL heads for appropriate staffing
    • Consensus reviewer for NA lead members
  • Teamwork: exert strong positive influence by:
    • Fostering BCN affiliation and connectedness such that the team members across all regions collaborate and are one-team
    • Working with local offices to ensure appropriate office integration

Required Education:

  • MBA or equivalent from top business school

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in a global professional services/ strategy consulting firm or equivalent years of relevant product / industry experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in building global teams – hiring strategy; career path etc.
  • Experience in coaching and developing individuals new to Bain
  • Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders across practice and capability areas to understand needs; develop and align on plan and operationalize
  • Strong Bain business judgement orientation and breadth of domain knowledge across industry and capability product areas
  • Strong academic credentials, analytical ability and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to drive and influence CXO/Partner level discussions succinctly to favorable outcomes
