The opportunity

Atos is growing the capabilities of it’s UK Public Sector Centre of Excellence (CoE) to work with our clients on the digital transformation journey. The Application Architect will be a part of a multiple disciplinary team ensuring the accelerated establishment of a DevOps culture & capabilities across our clients, as well as supporting more traditional applications development and support. You'll work alongside Senior DevOps engineers, cloud engineers and lead developers with to understand client requirements, propose solutions, oversee the implementation and then provide continued advice and mentorship to the delivery teams once up and running. Ensuring the teams are aligned with the standards and polices of the CoE. You will also assess and uplift skills and supports the embedding of new practices in the delivery and support teams.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Work as part of the wider team to identify the appropriate application architecture to support customer and Atos teams in meeting their outcomes.
• Understand client application portfolios and demonstrate how they could be improved upon.
• Support the writing and/or providing input to bid proposals to design application solutions that will make our teams and customers successful.
• Able to put delivery timescales implementation and cost estimates together based on proposed application architecture/design and risks.
• Responsible for application architecture for new applications that are being developed.
• Responsible for polices and standards for the CoE and support teams in their alignment to them.
• Participate in Atos architecture communities engaging local and global colleagues to ensure best practice for application architecture is adopted widely.
• Communicating efficiently and work together within a multi-disciplinary team, fostering the open and collaborative culture.
• Presenting and depicting the rationale of findings in simple, engaging and easy to understand business terms to a diverse group of partners.

This position is available in Winnersh , and you'll be expected to travel to customer and Atos sites UK wide; working from client/office/home locations as appropriate. Flexible working arrangements will potentially be available.

Skills we can’t do without:

• Experience working with multiple patterns and languages and persistence mechanisms to deliver applications, making the appropriate technology decision to best suit the application requirements.
• Development background is essential.
• Proven experience in reviewing current application architectures, identifying ways that new technologies can replace or augment, decompose into manageable architectural components that can be delivered without impacting the legacy system.
• Architecting applications using containers and orchestration technology to deliver modern 12-factor cloud-native applications.
• Experience in application security practices both in the crafting and development of applications.
• Recent experience in application mediation, in the form of APIs, API management and event-driven architecture.
• Good collaboration and communication skills, particularly with Development teams and influencing them.
• Passion about learning new development technologies and ways of working to improve the outputs of teams and improve customer outcomes.
• Able to undertake and successfully gain SC level security clearance checks.

Skills we’d like:

• Ideally, we would like someone with Mobile technologies.
• Strong background in Agile/DevOps delivery in a scaled environment, also comfortable delivering in waterfall mechanisms as well.
