Ancestry is looking for a highly motivated Data Science, Intern to join our Data Science Discovery team. The Data Science team supports our family history product. We find ways to provide new and meaningful discoveries to our customer. We build machine learned models to improve our content or create new content that unlock stories for Ancestry customers. As a Data Scientist intern on the Data Science Discovery team, you will be involved in the end to end process of data acquisition, data cleaning, model building, and model testing. You will help our users to find their ancestors and discover interesting family history events. You will utilize cutting edge machine learning algorithms and statistical analysis techniques to provide personalized search experience to our users.

What You'll Do

• Ranking algorithms for search accuracy and recall
• Machine Learning for recommender systems and personalization
• Feature engineering for people, family, records, photos and more
• NLP for query and document analysis, processing and understanding at a large scale
• Ranking result evaluation and analysis

Who You Are

• Must be currently enrolled in a university studying in Computer Science, Statistics or related fields and graduating after Summer 2020
• Research experience in a relevant field, such as information retrieval, machine learning, NLP or recommendation systems
• Solid modeling skills in Python or R
• Solid understanding of core CS algorithms and coding skills in Java or C/C++
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven track record of achieving significant engineering or academic results
• Experience with Big data, such as Hadoop/Hbase/Pig/Hive is a plus
• Experience with Solr/Elasticsearch is a plus
• Experience with Spark is a plus
