Ancestry is looking for a highly motivated User Experience Researcher Intern to join our User Experience Research (UXR) team. The UXR team supports the broader Ancestry organization by conducting research aimed at understanding user values, wants, needs, and capabilities. This research is used to provide actionable, customer-centered insights to design, product, marketing, and engineering teams for product innovation and development. As a User Experience Researcher Intern on the UXR team, you will contribute to user research in order to provide insight into strategic product direction and design.

What You'll Do

    • Collaborate with colleagues in product, design, and marketing to understand user needs and pain points.
    • Design and conduct user research studies on new and existing Ancestry concepts and features.
    • Deliver actionable research findings with clear recommendations for product and design.
    • Communicate clearly with stakeholders during each step of the research process.

Who You Are

    • Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after Summer 2020.
    • Working on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Factors/Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Marketing, Communications Research, or a related field.
    • Working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies and experience applying these methods.
    • Familiarity with the user-centered design process.
    • Willingness to learn and apply a variety of user research principles.
    • A team player with clear communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

    • Experience with online remote research tools (e.g. UserTesting.com , Optimal Workshop, UserZoom, Validately).
    • Knowledge of how and when to apply different research methods throughout the design process.
    • 1 year of experience with applied user research work and design strategy.
