Job Description The York, Pennsylvania site of BAE Systems is seeking a Quality Inspector: Visual Inspector for 2nd Shift.
- Receives instructions and work orders from Quality Manager, Quality Engineer or Lead person designated by BAE management.
- Assures continuity of production by performing quality inspections, at a random sampling plan directed by the Quality Manager, and other tasks as required by instruction or specification.
- Refers to sources of inspection criteria such as drawings, sketches, inspection procedures, military and commercial specifications, purchase orders, technical handbooks and charts, supplemental quality assurance requirements (i.e. SQAP’s, QAP’s and QAR’s), etc.
- Performs audits/verifications consisting of but not limited to; completeness of weldments/assemblies, dimensionals, visual weld, paint/plating, cleanliness, and damage per applicable drawings/specifications and determines appropriate disposition.
- Record accept/reject disposition via the appropriate BAE electronic filing repository (Oracle, EFIR, TIPQA, etc.) and completes necessary material control tags and database entries
- Utilizes equipment consisting of but not limited to; precision standard measuring equipment, functional gauges, functional test equipment, pressure gauges, etc. as required.
- Performs air pressure tests, as required.
- Marks questionable areas for rework/repair, when applicable.
- Access to assemblies by ladders, turnovers, low level catwalks, etc. May require bending, stooping, crawling, reaching, and awkward positioning to access inspection components and weldments.
- Performs layouts and set-ups using standard measuring equipment, as required.
- Assures continuity of production by performing quality inspections and other tasks as required by instruction or specification.
- Designates inspection status of items utilizing documentation methods such as stamps, forms, tags, controlled database entries, etc.
Please note: 2nd shift- 3:30PM-12:00AM with a non-paid 30 minute lunch period
Typical Education & Experience Typical Education Requirements: High School or equivalent
Required Skills and Education - Reading of technical documents (i.e., drawings, specifications, purchase orders, etc.);
- Understanding of weld symbols and their uses;
- Understanding of the imperial measurement system and the metric system, conversions, fractions and decimal equivalents;
- Basic computer and data entry skills. Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.;
- Physically able to access vehicles in order to obtain inspection data. This includes both fitness to climb in and around vehicles and regularly required vision screening for compliance with maintaining VT certification. May require bending, stooping, crawling, reaching, awkward positioning and lifting up to 40 lbs, unassisted;
- Employees are required to adhere to all Company and Departmental safety policies, and to follow all safety procedures dictated by applicable work instructions;
- Must be able to support 2nd Shift.
Preferred Skills and Education Preferred Experience and Certification/License Requirements: Certified as a VT level II inspector per SNT-TC-1A, meeting all minimum requirements for classroom training and experience time.
Ability to pass BAE Systems VT level II evaluation.
Must provide documented proof of training and experience.
Tools & Equipment Experience:Various Weld Inspection tools and gauges such as weld fillet gauges, V-Wac gauges.
Standard measuring equipment such as 6” rule, tape measure and combination squares.
Precision Measurement Equipment such as calipers (both vernier and digital), height gauges, surface plates, protractors, gauge blocks/pins, micrometers, depth gauges, thread gauges, plain plugs and ring gauges, profilometers, graduated and digital measuring device.
Material handling equipment such as jacks, hand trucks, jib cranes, etc.
Computer equipment and programs.
