As of June 30, 2018, HNRG managed USD 14.4 billion of timberland and farmland, compromising over 6.3 million acres located in the United States, Canada, and Australia. HFM and HFS are property management companies that serve global institutional investors through related-party investment management groups (Hancock Timber Resource Group and Hancock Agricultural Investment Group) and third-party private investors. HFM oversees the timber development and harvesting operations for approximately 3.8million acres of timberland across the USA and Canada. HFS oversees the agricultural assets and operations for approximately 0.3 million acres of farmland throughout the USA. Collectively, HFM and HFS represent the North American property management platform of HNRG.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direction of the SVP, Pacific Northwest Operations, the Quality Control Specialist is responsible to represent the company in the primary commodity producing areas of Washington, monitor and report on production quality of the commodity. The Quality Control Specialist will also monitor competitor activities and competitive crop costs in the area.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists the Regional Manager/Area Manager in the monitoring all crops in the area to support the production plan.
  • Assists the Operations Manager in developing competitive crop cost models.
  • Supervises all cultural activity of crops in the area.
  • Assists the Regional Manager/Area Manager in preparing monthly summaries, area maps and field maps.
  • Monitors all crop culture activities of apples including pruning, crop load management, weed control, fertilization, irrigation, pest control and disease management.
  • Assists in bud counts/crop load management and provides regular updates on crop progress and yield estimates to the Regional Manager/Area Manager.
  • Assists in the harvest management in all growing areas as needed.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with other Regional Manager/Area Manager and researchers in the area and promotes a positive company image within the local agricultural community.
  • Monitors competitive activities in the area.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in horticulture, crop science, agri-business, farm management or related field.
  • 1 – 3 years’ experience in crop culture and crop harvesting.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good planning and general management skills.
  • Good computer skills. Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.

  • Operates and maintains company vehicle
  • Operates and maintains company computer

Physical Demands :

  • Working outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Regularly carries items that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Heavy travel demands with long workdays and flexible work schedule

Contacts:

  • Daily communication during the harvest with Packing House Managers and Packing House Field Representatives.
  • Daily communication with the Regional Manager/Area Manager during the harvest season to update on area yield and quality projections.
  • Daily communication during the growing season with the Regional Manager/Area Manager to update on pruning/thinning status and crop progress.
  • Frequent communication with researchers, CCA’s and consultants during the growing season to discuss crop progress and cultural practices.

Performing the essential functions of this job may require the incumbent to work with and/or around hazardous materials, perform lifting and/or bending, or be exposed to unpleasant or hazardous conditions or substances in the field including heat, exhaust or chemicals.
