Job Summary

CenturyLink’s internship program is a 10 week, fast-paced and exciting opportunity to gain professional experience within your field of study and career interest. Interns within the Global Network and Technology Security will be part of an accelerated learning experience, to challenge skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills while working on active CenturyLink work projects. As a Managed Security service provider, we offer 24/7 monitoring, management, and support across our security service offering, and provide persistent visibility into customers' service information through a highly automated online self-service portal. The internship will take place in St. Paul, MN. In addition, interns will connect to our company culture through community outreach projects, engage with our employee resource groups and be able to develop their professional skills and business acumen through frequent exposure to senior leadership, cutting-edge technology, groundbreaking projects, and a network of mentors and fellow interns. Job Description

• Review Global SOC Shift end Summary and SOC activity logs, emails, cases and other monitoring tools for complete understanding of previous shift activities and incidents with the goal of maintaining the highest level of customer service by keeping track of the critical customer impacting issue.
• Provide monitoring and responding to alerts and events within SLAs. Services and systems include but not limited to SLM- Secure Log Monitoring (internal SIEM), DDOS- Distributed Denial of Services Attacks, Firewalls alerts (ANS & NBS), HUD (internal SIEM), Splunk SIEM, IDS/IPS for customers.
• Monitor multiple ticketing systems and queues. Ensure tickets are created and notated within SLAs.
• Login to queues to answer only internal calls.
• Triage DDOS attacks targeted on customers environment.
• Work closely with the SOC Tier II and Ops Eng teams.
• Escalate issues to SOC Tier II and Ops Engineers as soon as there is a need.
• Adhere to all defined processes and procedures.
• Provide process and operational improvement suggestions.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications:
Pursing an undergraduate degree in IT, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Computer Networking, Telecommunications or any other related field.
• Classification: Junior or Senior at the start of the internship.
• Course work in Cyber Security and Networking and pursuing interest in entry level Security and/or Networking certification (like CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Network+).
• Some understanding and knowhow of firewalls and VPN (IPSec and SSL) desirable.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to Triage and Escalate alerts, incidents, email notifications and alerts, calls, incidents and trouble tickets to appropriate stakeholders.
• DDoS Mitigation – Some understanding and concepts of DDOS and mitigations techniques.
• Understanding of any SIEM platform is desirable.
• Basic understanding of any coding/scripting language.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
