LOCATION: San Diego, CA (Please note: Must be local to San Diego, CA to be considered for this role. Relocation packages not available for this position).

Description:

The Informatics Terminology Specialist is responsible for sourcing, creating, and maintaining consumer-focused clinical terminology content for the SSD Medical Informatics Team. The Specialist partners with the team to design, develop and maintain clinical content authoring tools and related technical infrastructure. The Informatics Terminology Specialist possesses a strong familiarity with clinical terms and is able to translate clinical concepts into consumer-friendly equivalents.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Sourcing, creating, and maintaining consumer-focused clinical terminology content.
  • Designing, developing and maintaining clinical content authoring tools and related technical infrastructure.
  • Responsible for creating terminology content that meets the business requirements.
  • Responsible for leading and executing on projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for fulfilling terminology requests from stakeholders.
  • Seeing through a project from conception to completed deliverable.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on clinical terminology standards.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical terminology content or clinical data experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a clinical field, biomedical informatics, clinical informatics or related field.

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong understanding/knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of basic clinical workflow in Ambulatory or Inpatient setting.
  • Ability to translate clinical concepts into consumer-friendly equivalents.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SNOMED, LOINC, ICD9, or CPT4 preferred
  • Experience with Medications knowledgebase, such as First Databank, Medispan preferred.
  • Experience with implementing Terminology in Electronic Medical Record preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Data analysis/query experience preferred
  • Certified coder or coding experience preferred.
  • Physician, Nurse, or Laboratory Scientist preferred
  • Minimum technical abilities, such as able to use Access DB, or minimal programming a plus.
