Robotic and autonomous systems are expected to become pervasive across a broad spectrum of applications in which United Technologies Corporation (UTC) businesses are engaged. The United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) has a tremendous opportunity for a hardworking individual to join our team as a Robotics Software Engineer. The person in this role will work in the Robotics Group, part of UTRC’s Autonomous and Intelligent Systems Department. The Robotics Group at UTRC studies, develops, and transitions relevant technologies for intelligent robotics and autonomous systems. This role will work out of our research facility in East Hartford, CT and may require the ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%).
We are interested in those individuals who have strong skills in software development and software engineering for robotics and autonomy or artificial intelligence applications including the implementation of basic and advanced capabilities.
This position calls for a combination of skills in multiple of the following as applied to robotics and autonomy: embedded and distributed computing, software architectures, software integration and testing, physics-based robotic system simulation, and standard software frameworks and message passing systems (for example, the Robot Operating System and the Data Distribution System).
Those interested in this role should have experience with hands-on hardware and software integration for robotic and autonomous systems, including sensor and actuator drivers for perception and control.
Primary Responsibilities:
Projects can be expected to involve aircraft and robotic aerial systems, ground mobile robots, and robotic manipulators for diverse applications ultimately supporting UTC business units, Pratt & Whitney (gas turbine engines) and Collins Aerospace (aerospace subsystems).
Applications include new product capability development as well as product manufacturing, service, and inspection.
