Job Description

Working in Application Support means you'll use both creative and critical thinking skills to maintain application systems that are crucial to the daily operations of the firm. You'll work collaboratively in teams on a wide range of projects based on your primary area of focus: design or programming. While learning to fix application and data issues as they arise, you'll also gain exposure to software development, testing, deployment, maintenance and improvement, in addition to production lifecycle methodologies and risk guidelines. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage day to day issues including daily health checks of applications and processes, working closely with end users, development staff and Infrastructure teams, to prioritize and resolve and/or mitigate outages.
  • Monitor production activities/processes to ensure timely and effective reporting, tracking, follow-up and communication of problems to internal and external clients.
  • Ensures information controls, back-up and recovery strategies are in place across all environments.
  • Implement continuous process improvement, including but not limited to policy, procedures, and production monitoring.
  • Help in identifying, coordinating, and implementing initiatives/projects and activities that create efficiencies and optimize technical processing.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical staff, end users and clients.
  • Carefully evaluate alternative risks and solutions before taking action to provide timely resolution.
  • Develop / utilize core support tools and processes to perform work while improving day-to-day practices for support team members with the goal of delivering service improvements to the business.
  • Identify system bottlenecks and opportunities for betterment.
This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • Basic knowledge of application development
  • Working knowledge in one or more general purpose programming languages, plus an interest in learning other coding languages and skills as needed
  • Working knowledge of developmental tool sets to design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals
  • 5+ years of hands-on Production Support/Engineering experience
  • Experience with distributed applications (Oracle, SQL, SQL Server, UNIX, Linux, Java, Java servlets and JSP, SOAP, Web services etc.)
  • Must be able to read and navigate around the Java code
  • Work on incidents/user issues, perform code research & troubleshoot the problem, batch job issues & resiliency
  • Experience with Batch Scheduling tools such as Control-M or Autosys
  • Experience with Linux platforms and Unix Scripting
  • Experience in SQL debugging skills
  • Middleware technologies: Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere and/or WebLogic
  • Strong analytical & trouble shooting skills required
  • Experience in Disaster Recovery planning and test execution
  • Knowledge of Splunk, WILY, Geneos, Dynatrace is a plus
  • Excellent problem management skills and relentless drive for root cause and execute measures to reduce repeat occurrence
