Job Description

This is an opportunity to join the growing Philips IGTD (Image Guided Therapy Devices). The packaging engineer is responsible for the development and sustaining of packaging, products, materials, processes, and equipment for projects of moderate to high complexity. Under limited supervision, compiles, analyzes, and reports operational, test, and research data to establish performance criteria for newly-designed or modified packaging, products, processes, or materials.

You are responsible for:

  • Ensures proposed packaging design changes are systematically and thoroughly analyzed through proper justification and/or data collection for verification of performance requirements.
  • Fully participates in and successfully contributes to project teams typically including the following activities: packaging/product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, report preparation, and process/test documentation (IQ, OQ and PQ).
  • Work independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet project timelines.
  • Work cross-functionally with project management, quality, R&D, manufacturing, regulatory, operations, and marketing.
  • Work with external suppliers to design, qualify and procure packaging components.
  • Complete packaging testing and/or investigation bench study experiments for packaging design.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians.
  • Generate packaging-related documentation including risk assessments, packaging work instructions, test protocols and reports.
  • Perform root cause analysis as related to design, material, or process failures.
  • Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from test results.
  • Design, procure, and fabricate tooling and fixtures.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering Degree
  • Five plus years of Packaging Engineering, medical device related required.
  • Ten plus years desired.
  • Strong knowledge related to paperboard, flexible packaging films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, injection molded parts, and packaging equipment
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 11607- Part 1 and 2, and other medical device standards such as ASTM D4169, ASTM F88
  • Packaging process and equipment qualification experience (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Understanding of medical device quality systems (Design controls, risk management, test method validations, etc.)
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and experience with Minitab
  • Knowledge of TOPS software for Package Design
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects and timelines effectively
