Position Overview:

The JPMorgan Chase Institute seeks a Summer 2020 Data and Technology Strategic Intern to work closely with its Data and Technology Strategy Team and Research teams to deliver the data assets and technology necessary to allow our researchers to do research. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, cloud computing architecture, and data engineering with an interest in tackling technical challenges in an academic and rigorous environment. An entrepreneurial spirit, active communication of issues, and a proactive mindset are a must.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with analysts, Research Directors, Research Fellows, and internal thought-leaders to deliver quality data assets, both public and Institute data, to support academic research.
• Conduct technical research and review of internal and external tooling for data pipeline and automation workflow improvement
• Present technical findings to Data and Technology Strategy team and researchers.
• Create technical proof-of-concepts and experiments for Institute use cases.
• Develop tooling, automation, and reporting for data pipeline and data quality metrics.
• Support delivery of data pipeline assets and a functional compute environment.
• Aid in the stewardship and governance for Master Data Management.

Candidate Qualifications

• Current undergraduate student with a major or extensive coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Statistics, or Machine Learning.
• Demonstrates experience programming with Scala or Python.
• Demonstrates ability to develop data pipelines (i.e., ETL), data quality automation and evaluation, and data
• Experience developing data processing tools and performant queries with Spark or Hadoop.
• Familiarity with modern machine learning techniques and what it takes to support them.
• Understanding of the tenets of DevOps for distributed computing and commercial cloud architectures (e.g., Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure)
• Passionate about new technology exploration and ability to communicate findings.
• Team-player able willing to work and learn in a small, high performing, and collaborative environment, often at a fast pace and under time constraints; comfort with uncertainty and an entrepreneurial working context.
