Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting Risk Management
    • Execute underwriting for all products
    • Perform risk assessment oversight for local underwriters in consultation with Chief Underwriter
    • Responsible for the integrity of the underwriting approval
    • Ensure compliant to Corporate and Regulatory guidelines
    • Review claims on non-disclosure cases in conjunction with Chief Underwriter
    • Review appeal cases in conjunction with VP New Business
  • New Product Development
    • Working with Regional Office and Product Development to develop appropriate underwriting and benefits guidelines for the new products
    • Working with the Product Launch Committee to ensure smooth product roll out
  • Training & Development
    • Train underwriters to ensure professional competency and up-to-date with competitive or new market practices
    • Ensure consistent assessment across the underwriters and compliance with underwriting guidelines
    • Work collaboratively with the rest of the New Business & Underwriting team members to ensure production targets are met monthly
    • Provide feedback to Chief Underwriter on staff developmental needs from technical underwriting perspectives and other qualitative skills such as distribution management and decision making, etc..
    • Train Distribution channels on new products’ underwriting requirements or changes to existing underwriting practices
    • Provide consultations to distribution channels
  • Business Processes
    • Establish underwriting practices to ensure competitive advantages
    • Perform underwriting audits
    • Conduct benchmarking exercises with various reinsurers
  • Risk Management with Regional Office, Bermuda Office and Reinsurers
  • Work with both offices and reinsurers to develop underwriting guidelines that are appropriate to local context, in consultation with Chief Underwriter

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of underwriting experience in the working domain of life insurance businesses in Singapore
  • Team lead experience is an advantage
  • Possess degree qualifications with ACII certificates
  • Strong and consistent mentoring skill for underwriters
  • Strong distributors relationship management skill
  • Good communication skills
  • Critical problem solving and decision making
