Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a GCP Cloud Engineer you will work closely with the Solutions Architecture team and the Onboarding Project Managers to take the lead on deploying Google Cloud Platforms for Rackspace’s Managed Services customers.
You will be responsible for gathering low level requirements from the customer and using GCP native and 3rd party tools to create deployment templates, execute builds, perform regular quality checks and manage your build pipeline & tasks.
As an engineer the successful candidate will utilise their developed technical and industry experience to assist the engineering team to drive improvements in time to deliver and quality, working with counterparts in other regions to drive global standards of excellence.
Given the project nature of the engagements, most relationships with customers will be short-term in nature. The right candidate will have the ability to quickly build rapport and a professional working relationship with key members of the customer’s team. Internally you will need to form long-term positive relationships with Pre-Sales Architectures, Sales Staff, Rackspace Support Engineers, Project Managers and other support staff.
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:
Strong demonstrable experience and skills in the following areas are either mandatory or beneficial.
Required
- Good knowledge of GCP Products & Services including; Relational and NoSQL Databases, Caching, Object and Block Storage, Scaling, Load Balancing, CDNs, Networking
- System Administration experience supporting Microsoft Windows or Linux (RHEL, CentOS and Ubuntu), troubleshooting incidents and executing change requests
- Experience working with Cloud Technologies such as AWS, Azure or Google
- Experience of using either Google’s Cloud Deployment Manager or Terraform
- Exposure to YAML or Jinja
- Understanding of managing environments via Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Experience of delivering automation projects to reduce time & effort or improve consistency and quality
- Understanding of design of native Cloud applications, Cloud application design patterns and practices
- Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect or to achieve this within 6 months of role
- Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills
Desirable
- Experience of working with/for Enterprise organisations using ITIL ITSM processes
- Experience of working within both Waterfall and Agile Project Management methodologies
- Understanding of DevOps principles and technologies such as CI/CD pipelines, Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins
- Google Cloud Certified Professional Data Engineer, Network Engineer, Cloud Developer or Cloud Security Engineer
- Demonstrable experience in Scripting and Programming, including Python
- Demonstrable experience with Kubernetes and manifest creation
Key Accountabilities
- Capture Low Level technical requirements for Google Platform Deployments
- Provide best practice guidance and support to customers
- Lead the deployment of Customer Google Platforms, including creation of Templates, Deployment and Quality Checks
- Real Time management of your Build Pipeline and Tasks in Project Management tooling for your builds
- Lead post-deployment handover to BAU support team
- Share and contribute to improvement / automation projects
- Collaborate with teams globally to create / drive consistent standards
- Continue to develop industry knowledge, taking ownership of your personal development plan
