Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) is currently seeking a
Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the role of
Chief Architect in support of our Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) pursuit. This position will initially be located in Indianapolis, IN pre-award, performing planning and supporting pursuit tasks. Post-award this position location will transition to the customer’s facility in Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. This position involves working in a team environment guiding the development and maintenance of the system architecture from operating concepts down to and including product level of detail. The
Chief Architect employs standard architecture development methods, tools and work products to create an understanding of the Fleet Synthetic Training (FST) and Combatant Commander (COCOM) Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) exercises training system. The overarching system architecture includes the system and subsystem purpose, the definition for functions and interfaces for all major elements, a means to measure and evaluate performance and the matching of requirements to technical solutions. The
Chief Architect will plan architecting effort, work closely with the Chief Engineer and Program manager, and support the execution team in the implementation of the architecture. The
Chief Architect must be capable of leading activities to develop and integrate new and enhanced architectures and capabilities within a large, complex networked training network that will provide robust, realistic and cost- effective training.
Clearance Requirements: Ability to obtain a Secret Level security clearance; an active Secret or higher clearance a plus.
Responsibilities and scope include:- Planning system architecture effort
- Leading the update of new capabilities into an enhanced system architecture for the NCTE
- Providing technical support to program management and business development to build relationships with the NCTE customer, help understand their future needs, and develop technical solutions to fill their gaps
- Supporting Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts for the NCTE efforts to update the network of simulation, training, and C4I systems, which form a virtual range for Navy training and fleet experimentation.
- Developing System Architecture using standard frameworks, methods and tools
- Leading the architecture development and modeling of Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) that can track the allocated, current status and projected values of critical Technical Performance Measurements (TPMs).
- Providing system architecture guidance to a cross-functional team throughout the lifecycle of the NCTE program
- Communicating effectively with both the cross-functional engineering team and with engineering and program management
- Performing responsibilities under only general direction
Required Skills- Minimum of 10 years in systems, software or computer engineering, providing demonstrable technical expertise & value to programs, commensurate with current grade and role
- Knowledge of Architecting Methods such as Raytheon Enterprise Architecture Process (REAP), Rational Unified Process (RUP) or The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF).
- Experience with Architecture Frameworks such as DoDAF (or variants MODAF, UAF, etc.) TOGAF, Zachman, or FEAF.
- Familiarity with architecture model development in standard architecting tools. Examples include Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience operating within an organization governed by company policies & procedures
- Experience working on development projects
- Ability to manage work in an environment with ambiguity and change
Desired Skills: - Experience with Live Virtual Constructive training, training architecture and weapons/warfighter training
- Experience in development, integration, and test of large scale complex systems
- Experience managing programs via program metrics: development, financial, performance
- Experience ensuring program progress via formal risk & opportunity management
- Experience using DOORS, SysML, Matlab, ModelSim other system engineering tools
- Experience mentoring engineers of all grade levels
- Familiarity with Raytheon company policies & procedures
- Active Secret or higher clearance
Education Requirements: - Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics (Preferred Majors: Systems, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical) and 10+ years of relevant experience - or
- Master’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics (Preferred Majors: Systems, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical) and 8+ years of relevant experience
