Reference Data Operations is aligned to the Chief Data Office (CDO) which is responsible for improving the quality, integrity and reliability of the firm’s critical data. The organization’s objectives are to explain the path that critical data follows, improve data quality, reduce ambiguity and inconsistent terminology, enhance transparency, rationalize the number of replicated data assets, and improve firm wide-sharing of information and best practices. The CDO serves as the governing body to create firm wide standards that drive consistent data management practices, develop technologies and processes to support data management processes, partner with lines of business and functional groups to embed data management best practices and capabilities, and ensure sustainability by refining, measuring, and improving the firm’s ability to manage data.

Description of role, functions and activities

Instrument, Pricing & Common Reference Data is an operating unit center of excellence providing instrument reference data to multiple lines of business across J.P. Morgan as one of its three core offerings.

The Instrument Reference Data Team provides high quality Reference Data to its subscribers from major external market providers under a single operating model. Data is sourced, validated, mastered and distributed via J.P. Morgan’s strategic Reference Data architecture and is used for trading, risk management, settlement and regulatory reporting.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Vice-President specializing in the Instrument Reference Data space to join the Operations Team, responsible for the delivery of internal client demands across the various Lines of Business’ within JP Morgan. The role is based in Delaware and will interact with front office, middle office, product management and technology.

Key Responsibilities and skills:

  • Responsible for contributing to the success and overall execution of the strategic agenda within Instrument Reference Data operations
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of individuals responsible for the creation/maintenance of the Instrument Reference Data on our core and legacy platforms
  • Responsible for Performance Management of team members as well as develop and coach of existing talent
  • Assist with defining and implementing a succession plan for members of the team
  • Ensure proper controls are in place to reduce financial risks, implement procedures to enforce controls and ensure controls are adhered to
  • Project management capabilities on Operations initiatives and projects related to productivity, process streamlining and automation
  • Represent Operations views and concerns on initiatives that have both technology and operations components
  • Ensure that any proposed changes are being validated for Operations impact and their impact on Operations both process and resource wise is documented and agreed to by Operations Management
  • Provide support for our Adoptions program and to the Instrument Data Operations team
  • Assist where needed with the management of the productivity stream and that will contribute to the annual productivity targets for Operations
  • Responsible for Data and process, special projects and analyses that are impacting the strategic reference data platform
  • Responsible for the timely execution of project tasks, stakeholder updates, resolving and escalating issues.
  • Partner with technology team and Operations team to deliver change to our production environment.
  • Design and implement controlled operational processes to meet specific business needs
  • Candidate may also be required to perform Business Analysis tasks within the role in addition to the overall management of initiatives.

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Instrument Reference Data operations
    • 3+ years’ experience in Operations Management and People Management – candidate review and assessment, performance management, training and development planning, objective setting
    • Strong process management skills
    • Domain knowledge of Equity, Fixed Income and Derivative products
    • Experience of GIM, the strategic reference data platform preferred
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent Interpersonal, Client and Influencing skills
    • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and related experience
    • Strong team attitude
    • Proactive and pragmatic approach - recognized as someone who get things done
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
    • Flexible approach to meeting targets
