Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience in user experience research.
  • Education in Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Psychology, Computer Science, Behavioral Economics, or equivalent professional experience leading user research/fieldwork.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience conducting research internationally and working with a global Product team.
  • Experience in quant research, including R or SPSS and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to work with UX, Product, and Engineering teams.

At Google, User Experience Researchers (UXRs) help everyone focus on the user. In this role, you will create understanding and empathy around user needs, stated and unstated, for your entire product team including designers, product managers, and engineers. You will do so by conducting primary research, exploring the behaviors and motivations of our users through methods like field visits, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, and logs analysis. Your research will help us create useful, usable, and delightful new products and features for people as well as continually innovating on our existing products. You’ll inspire change at all stages of product development by delivering compelling, written, in-person and visual presentations on your findings.
The UXR community at Google is unique. As part of our group, you will have the chance to work not only with the other UXRs on your immediate team but to work and learn from UXRs across the company through regular in-person meetups, established mentorship programs, access to our internal research tools, and 20% projects. People around the world add content to Google Maps every day. It's how we keep Google Maps information accurate, rich, and up-to-date, and is critical in helping us deliver the Google Maps mission to assist people everywhere as they navigate, explore, and get things done in the real world.
In this role, you'll partner with Product Management, Engineering, UX, and UX researchers to help us maintain our data up-to-date (e.g., providing a real-time, self-updating model of an ever-changing world) and our renders faithful of the world around us.

User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that people love. We strive to learn and understand our users’ needs, behaviors, and emotions to gather insights that inform product strategy and design. Our UX teams include designers, researchers, content strategists, and engineers who are passionate about quality, usability, and simplicity. We work on collaborative teams to solve complex challenges and craft experiences that highlight our products’ unique capabilities and personalities. Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Engineering, Product Management, Designers, and senior researchers to understand where user insights can help the team make the most important decisions.
  • Plan and execute a range of research studies including usability testing, concept testing, interviews, diary studies, and surveys.
  • Understand the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
  • Consolidate and prioritize research needs from team members. Be an advocate for users throughout the product development cycle and identify new opportunities for high-impact research, ensuring effective communication of research findings.
  • Create high quality deliverables for key product decisions. Participate in product discussions, design reviews, and postmortems.
