National Grid is Hiring a Lead Program Manager, Site Investigation, Remediation in our Brooklyn Greenpoint, NY location.
Job Purpose You will be responsible for managing large, complex, environmental investigation and remediation projects for the Company in order to protect human health and the environment, maintain compliance with applicable local, state, & federal environmental and safety requirements and internal Company policies and requirements, control project financials, and promote good working relationships with external stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities - Manage site investigation and remediation projects associated with manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites, contaminated sediment sites and other large contaminated sites for which the Company has responsibility to ensure that cost-effective, protective, complaint remedies are implemented. Project Management activities include the day-to day management of consultants and remediation contractors, including negotiation, interpretation and application of established contractual agreements, to ensure adherence to standards and best outcomes for the Company and our customers.
- Develop project strategies and implement project activities through technical, legal, communications and administrative resources
- Ensure prudent spending through management project activities and financial reporting in order to ensure cost-effective task and project implementation and adherence to budgets and schedules. Accurately forecast and track project spend and estimate future project costs.
- Maintain a detailed working knowledge of current and proposed federal, state and local regulations, as well as the Company’s environmental procedures, in order to challenge business processes to ensure the Company is compliant with environmental legislation and regulations. Maintain good working relationships with key regulatory staff.
- Ensure projects comply with safety regulations and internal policies and processes.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with the public and the local communities while working on high profile, media-sensitive projects. Team with internal and external communications, legal and community teams to develop and implement strategies for communicating with key external stakeholders. When necessary, present at community meetings.
Manage multi-disciplinary internal teams to effectively implement SIR projects while maintaining Company utility operations.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required - Strong leadership skills and influencing skills.
- Effective communication skills including the ability to make persuasive presentations to drive changes in behavior.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships across the organization and with external contacts and leads of all levels.
Qualifications - A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Biology/Geology) or Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
- 10 plus years of professional experience in managing environmental projects. Relevant experience with CERCLA contaminated sediment projects, including experience with RI/FS, remedy development and implementation, and PRP Group participation.
- Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation. Knowledge of New York, and Federal environmental regulations including CERCLA is preferred.
- “Meaningful” professional certification or license (i.e., LSP, PE, LEP, CHMM, PG) is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large complex projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing environmental investigation, feasibility studies, design and remediation projects, and experience working with environmental regulators.
- Strong financial skills to support financial and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking and “people” skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
- Need to possess a valid driver's license with safe driving history required.
