Job Purpose This role is heavily focused on data management activities to create the necessary controls such data quality scorecards to identify exceptions, determine root cause, and work toward conversion, data remediation including historical and current data corrections, and proactively measure our data quality going forward and implementing the data management standards. This role has tendency to technical, but the Data Management is currently under the business side of the Gas Business Enablement project. You will be responsible for your own workstream. In addition, this role works cross-functionally on leading the data management activities to your workstreams while ensuring data management best-practices are adhered to. This role will have the opportunity to look at wealth of the gas operations data such as gas assets, gas work orders, leaks, customers, employees, and our facilities. This position is critical to the deployment of this new capability regarding our new data management practice. You will be leading a step change in how National Grid manages our data.
Key Accountabilities Data Profile & Quality:
- Perform data mining to identify data quality issues, root cause, and resolution based on data management best practices including process improvements
- In collaboration with the Product Owner, our Business Partners, and Data Management IT team, you will be responsible to create and to deploy the data quality scorecards cradle to grave:
- Gain the understanding the data around your workstream and its data lineage
- If the Data is an asset, an asset data standard will need to be review if existent or created
- Data business rules will need to be gathered with the data owner and their affiliated departments
- Provide the data architect with the data required to be hosted in our DataHub environments
- Use of data quality tool (Informatica Data Quality tool) to create and to deploy your automate data quality scorecard using the tool.
Data Governance:
- Collaborate with business functions, IS, and other functions to ensure project requirements adhere to data management best practices
Modernization:
- Revamp the Informatica Data Quality functionalities for the different program anchors and our GBE program deliverables
- Continually work toward establishing single reporting repository to reduce data duplication and quality issues
- Lead the data management decisions to align to our BMS data management principles and minimum standards for your assigned workstreams
- Lead the data conversions needed for the assigned workstream and able to bridge the data sylos and thinking around data when it affects our way of managing our data
- Support and capture the data archiving capability requirement as we retire our legacy systems
Solving:
- Establishing data remediation for identified data issues in our conversion and in our future steady state
- Identify new data needs, providing expertise to business functions and IS to incorporate into existing reporting repository
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required Qualifications - Minimum 5+ years of direct experience with data management initiatives (data profiling, improvement, accuracy, completeness, integrity, security, stewardship, and governance)
- A safe driving record which meets National Grid's safe driving standards, for up to 25% travel to meetings.
- Strong experience in leading a workstream on its data management needs and challenging the business on why we need the data set and how can we more efficiently manage our data and manage our gas business
- Strong understanding of data conversions process and specifications; reporting conversions process and specifications; Data warehousing (Oracle, SQL, etc.), transformation (Informatica, etc.), and best practices
- Some knowledge and working experience in R or Python; ability to write and understand R & Python programming languages
- Experience in documenting data lineage from operational source to reporting repository, including
- Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science/Math/Engineering
- Previous experience managing enterprise-level projects
- Ability to investigate anomalies and proactively problem solve
- Able to work within a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities
- Must be a fast learner and willing to learn independently
- Able to exercise judgment as it relates to business decisions and their effects on stakeholders
- Strong time management skills to manage multiple priorities under time constraints
- Strong presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
