Have you ever wanted to design and create a baseball bat and slime so you can fight the monsters like the gang from The Last Kids On Earth ? Does designing your very own temporary tattoos and charm bracelets so you can be like your favorite character from the next best YA sci-fi fantasy or romance make you giddy with excitement? Or does creating awesome new swag like slap bracelets, fanny packs, and tee shirts to show off to your friends get your creative juices flowing? Then we want you to join our team!

Penguin Young Readers Marketing is looking for a super energetic and talented Junior Designer/Designer to join our group. Reporting to the Assistant Art Director, the designer will assist on all marketing/sales/publicity collateral, aid with our digital and social media campaigns, and collaborate on high-profile branding and corporate initiatives. This position is ideal for a super creative and most importantly, FUN candidate who wants to learn and grow their design skills in a fast-paced marketing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Art Director and the marketing team on new ideas and projects for retail outlets, schools and libraries, and digital campaigns.
  • Design a wide range of marketing and sales pieces including bookmarks, pins, school kits, digital and print advertisements, and author pitch presentation decks.
  • Assist in creating brand marketing style guides for some of the biggest licensing titles on the young readers market, such as: Roald Dahl, Who HQ, The Last Kids on Earth, Eric Carle, and Peter Rabbit.
  • Act as a liaison alongside the Assistant Art Director between various publishing imprints and the marketing department, most specifically, Penguin Workshop and Viking Children’s Books.
  • Help to brainstorm and develop fresh advertising campaigns centered around our hottest new titles, as well as some of our longstanding Penguin classics.

Please apply if you meet the following requirements :

  • Minimum of six months’ design experience to be considered at the Junior Designer lever; minimum of 2 years of design experience in a professional office environment to be considered at the Designer level.
  • Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Working knowledge and skills with Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro a plus.
  • A strong digital portfolio showcasing bold ideas and forward-thinking design.
  • Ability to multitask and work quickly under deadlines.
  • Be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • A self-starter who can work just as well independently as you can in a team setting.
  • Interest in children’s, middle grade and young adult literature and trends.
