  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for the engineering, configuration, custom/design process, and maintenance of the network interactions for OpenStack environments. Provides technical support to various departments and users with regards to OpenStack Networking environments. May serve as a liaison with vendors and other third-party providers. May provide mentoring to team members. May act as a Project Lead for OpenStack networking initiatives.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY: Advanced knowledge of the design, configuration, installation, maintenance, administration, and upgrade of OpenStack environments, including expert level knowledge in one or more of the following: firewalls, switches, routers, Linux networking, etc. Familiarity with Cisco ASA firewalls 8.2/8.3+ NATs and ACLs preferred. Knowledge of general load-balancer concepts, preferably with F5 Big IP, including virtual server setup, pool balancing methods, and pool member health status. Experience with F5 BigIP iRules a plus. Ability to troubleshoot physical and virtual networking components including physical interfaces, taps, Linux bridges, veth pairs, Open vSwitch and namespaces. Ability to read/edit/troubleshoot IPtables on hosts. Comfortable with OpenStack Neutron commands for CRUD operations on networks, subnets, routers, agents, etc. Must have experience with troubleshooting networking on Linux systems.
  • JOB COMPLEXITY: Performs complex engineering, design, custom solutions, implementation, and manipulation of network interactions for OpenStack projects. Assist with peer reviews on OpenStack networking projects and initiatives. Review and test current/future products/plugins/modules related to OpenStack Networking. Develop project plans and task lists for various OpenStack networking initiatives. Identifies and reviews anomalies that are broad and potentially service impacting. Identify, review, and recommend security postures to peers and appropriate security teams. Researches, evaluates, and recommends hardware and software solutions. Serves as a troubleshooter on complex network problems. Acts as an escalation point for high level customer issues. Interaction as required with vendors to investigate new equipment and services. Responsible for evaluating cost and quality of equipment and services; and provides recommendations. Responsible for the implementation planning prior to the actual installation of hardware such as routers, firewalls, load balancers, and switches. Remains informed of new developments and trends; may make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments. Assists team in daily operations and requests but prioritizes projects. Participates in on-call support per team design. Overlay for learning about new product offerings and facilitating their successful delivery across the segment. Organizes and presents at Brown Bags and other learning opportunities to ensure successful product launches and integration. Researches existing products to ensure customers are aware of and understand use cases for specific products. Involved in researching why products already launched are or are not successful.
  • SUPERVISION: Operations under minimal supervision; may provide mentorship to lower level Engineers.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems is preferred. Requires at least 4 years of Network Engineering experience. CCNA required and CCNP preferred.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office environment. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. No special physical demands required. Due to the 24X7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
