Project Manager III (Technology/IT)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

The Project Manager III is responsible for medium to large-sized IT projects, often of varying scope, high complexity, and non-contained risk. Projects may be concurrent or overlap.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:

  • Strong understanding of project management principles; solid knowledge of the IT project lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with project planning and support tools such as MS Project, Project Workbench, MS Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Ability to monitor progress and status of deliverables and communicate appropriately. Ability to capture status updates using the appropriate tools.
  • Ability to communicate impact of status changes to overall project plan/progress; this includes writing runbooks, user manuals, and training materials.
  • Ability to identify potential areas of improvement for team members.
  • Ability to influence decisions with a degree of critical thinking and with a grasp of the strategic intent of the project.
  • Proven accountability for, and successful delivery of, complex projects; demonstrated delivery of service meeting customer expectations.
  • Excellent time management, communications, decision making, presentation, human relations, and organization skills. Intuitive ability to balance scope, tasks, schedule, quality, resources, and budget.
  • Strong demonstrated performance of accepted project lifecycle practices/ methodology. Solid understanding of the business and related technology needs; able to deliver the RACKSPACE Value Proposition
  • Ability to understand critical factors and impacts surrounding issues and to make a reasonable decision.
  • Ability to resolve problems in a timely manner. Ability to meet deadlines while responding well to constant changes and resource constraints.

JOB COMPLEXITY:

  • Manage medium to large-sized projects, often of varying scope, high complexity, and non-contained risk.
  • Define the project from a business need, and create momentum and project acceptance. Create an environment and a process by which the project will be successfully delivered.
  • Enhance and embrace accepted PM methods, procedures, and quality objectives. Develop and control time, project plans and budget. Manage the competing needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Assess and manage project variances (e.g. schedule variance); evaluate impacts to overall project commitments, evaluate and present options, and implement approved changes.
  • Maintain accountability for managing expectations and ensuring quality. Communicate appropriately and persuade leadership regarding necessary action steps in a manner that demonstrates confidence and a grasp of the strategic intent of a project.
  • Provide tactical and strategic leadership with decision authority within the context of the project regarding priorities, timeline, resources, and issues.
  • WITHIN THE CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAM--Provide ongoing work direction to project team. Provide performance feedback for team members as appropriate. Foster and promote knowledge exchange. Create an environment that enhances team motivation. Assure project team works in a cohesive manner and delegate tasks appropriately. Act as an example to the team in communicating in a timely and effective manner.

SUPERVISION:

  • Little instruction on daily work, general instruction on new assignments.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field specialized training or equivalent work experience PREFERRED. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of IT PM experience or equivalent IT PROJECT leadership experience REQUIRED
  • PMP certification is a plus. Lean certification or Six Sigma belt—especially in conjunction with PMP is plus

POLICY COMPLIANCE:

  • Responsible for adhering to company security policies and procedures and any other relevant policies and standards as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • General office environment. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. No special physical demands required. Schedule flexibility to include working a weekend day regularly and holidays as required by the business for 24/7 operations. Occasional travel, less than 10%.
