Who You'll Work With

You'll work in one of our North American offices within McKinsey’s Operations Practice, ideally Atlanta, Boston or Chicago.We work with the most influential names in operations to transform their core business and build resilience. Throughout industries and entire value chains, we help clients drive productivity, powered by digital technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and advanced analytics.You will report to the head of communications and external relations for the Operations Practice and work closely with a variety of global colleagues (e.g. the global communications team for Ops, colleagues from other practices, and other firm functional teams - IT, Legal, Risk, Recruiting, etc.).

What You'll Do

You will contribute to the overall success of the Operations Practice by enhancing our reputation and influence in the market and among press. You will work with the Ops communications team to execute integrated communications campaigns in North America, ensuring our insights reach priority external audiences, including journalists and influencers, and you will help build awareness of McKinsey’s distinctive Ops knowledge.Additionally, you will manage a media outreach strategy for each service line in the Operations Practice, working with the communications team and leadership to identify and shape outreach to priority journalists, including relationship building and coordination with agencies. You'll also work directly with Operations leaders to define and execute multi-channel communications plans and campaigns, including defining priority industry conferences and leading our presence at those events, as well as supporting McKinsey-hosted client forums, social media campaigns, email campaigns, etc. In addition, you will be the lead on the Ops communications team for media and PR best practices, including risk assessments as needed, and agency relationship best practices.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with exposure to professional services, operations, infrastructure or capital-intensive industries (i.e. manufacturing, energy, etc.)
  • University degree required with a strong academic record; communications or marketing degree preferred
  • Demonstrated impact in a communications, marketing, PR agency setting; PR agency experience a plus
  • Experience identifying and negotiating event partnerships and preparing senior executives for speaking engagements
  • Proven project management experience with a strong track record of achieving results
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
  • Experience developing and executing multi-channel thought leadership campaigns
  • Strong writing skills and content development experience across all formats (social, long-form, email, etc.)
  • Team-orientation with a strong sense of commitment to team members
  • High level of drive and initiative; resourceful with an ability to work independently, solve problems independently, and manage communications projects end-to-end
  • Able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with a sense of urgency, and a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work well with others, at all levels of the organization
