Janssen UK is currently recruiting for a Product & Therapy Area Communications Manager.
On this role you will grow the reputation of Janssen and J&J in the UK through the implementation of the Communication & Public Affairs team’s external and internal communication strategies.
Key Responsibilities/ Principle Duties (Essential Functions)
- Execute communication activities for designated therapy areas and/or brands, including the launch of new products, line extensions, new indications and franchise communications, whilst maintaining transparency for existing brands by:
- Development and reviewing various materials e.g., media materials, internal messaging and briefing documents, and drafting correspondence for external stakeholders
- Updating the Janssen intranet, Chatter, specified elements of janssen.co.uk and social media updates (twitter feed), following company process and compliance at all time
- Attending ad hoc external meetings to provide summaries and feedback on insights to internal Janssen teams
- Become an active and respected business partner of the brand Country Value Team (CVT) for designated products by:
- Advising the CVT on communication strategies and managing messages; where appropriate aligning with EMEA/Global strategies
- Develop an understanding of product, therapeutic area and market knowledge. Maintain this knowledge to anticipate and respond to changes and to find opportunities for the business
- Understand the external environment we operate in and how the Janssen UK team interacts with patients, patient advocacy groups, Whitehall and Westminster, the media and the NHS on behalf of the brand teams, contributing ideas, insights, challenges, etc.
- Promptly highlight developments of interest in the external environment to the Communication & Public Affairs team and key business partners
- Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of new ways of communication including development and management of social media channels, digital landscape analysis and strategic social media engagement
- Act as first point of contact for enquiries (internal and external), response development and where appropriate, triage to the wider communication team (EMEA/Global)
- Manage the appointed PR agencies, including driving project implementation, timelines & financial management
- Support the external communications with associated patients, patient advocacy groups and the media by developing press releases, patient materials and using relevant communication channels
- Work with leads for Corporate Communications and Internal Communications & Engagement to ensure that appropriate and compliant therapy area communication activities are leveraged through internal and corporate, social and digital media channels
- Liaise with Global and EMEA teams to update them on UK developments, to promote UK specific initiatives and to seek information relevant to the UK business
- Benchmark media activity with appropriate metrics and evaluate success on a quarterly basis or as appropriate (quantitative and qualitative evaluation)
- Maintain full compliance with ABPI guidelines and Janssen SOPs on all associated communications and activities undertaken for these allocated brand responsibilities
- Report Adverse Events and complaints in a timely way to Drug Safety according to current Adverse Event Reporting guidelines/SOP and to maintain Regulatory compliance
- Act in accordance with ABPI Code of Practice and Johnson & Johnson HCC requirements
Qualifications Essential Technical Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Experience in pharmaceutical brand/product and therapy area/franchise communications, either in-house or within an agency/consultancy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate complex scientific data into compelling communications materials
- Strong media knowledge and journalist contacts
- Knowledge of new ways of communication including digital and social media
- High level of understanding of the ABPI Code of Practice
- Experience in benchmarking results and setting appropriate evaluation metrics
- Experience working collaboratively across different teams with competing priorities
- Strong negotiating and influencing skills
- Proactive with a proven record in delivering results in a high pressure and fast-paced environment
