Job Purpose:

Reporting to Thales North America’s General Counsel, Director of Legal & Contracts oversees all legal and contractual services for TCDS. The Director, Legal & Contracts manages a team of four contracts or legal manager, is responsible for all matters relating to compliance, and provides legal advice and support to TCDS executives. Reporting dotted line to TCDS managing director, the Director, Legal & Contracts is a local management team member.

Key Job Functions:

• Manage a team of contracts and legal managers, ensuring excellent support services for all TCDS activities
• Participates in strategic and organizational discussions as a member of the local management team
• Creates and promotes opportunities for continuous improvement using inter-departmental collaboration
• Provides legal advice
• Assess legal and contractual risks and provides creative and business solutions
• Support General Counsel in liaising with outside counsel
• Monitor compliance with internal policies and processes, ethics, anti-corruption, anti-trust and privacy
• Regularly reports on key events and builds actionable consensus with Thales management and executives
• Diligently reviews and approves high value bids and proposals, offering contractual contingencies to reduce risks, and strategies to achieve opportunities
• Aligns team priorities to Thales strategies, values, and performance objectives
• Frame and advise management on strategic partnerships
• Act as an expert in Canadian federal procurement laws and regulations
• Lead and manage his/her team with professionalism, tact, and respect and strive to improve team attitude, excellence in delivery and content with a business mind set

Key Skill Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent from a recognized university
• 10+ years of experience in transactional and corporate law and matters of compliance
• 3+ years of experience supervising multidisciplinary teams
• Experience in governmental procurement, defense contracting
• Collaborative, focused, diligent and engaged
• Ability to work in a matrix environment
• Embrace key values: respect of others and ethical behavior
