Summary of role
Reporting directly to the Deputy Head of Engineering the Programme Engineering Manager will be responsible for aircraft availability, which includes all of the ‘in-service’ elements of the aircraft programme.
This role will work closely across multiple functional areas with Customer and their Stakeholders and manage the Engineering team including; Coordinating Design Organisation (CDO) Support Engineers, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) team, Technical Publications team, Configuration Management, Airworthiness and senior technical leads to ensure successful, continued operation of the Shadow fleet of aircraft. This role will also involve some line management responsibilities and expected to evolve and grow to include future Tactical and Strategic bids.
Main Duties:
Coordinate and lead the ‘in-service’ element of a Tactical aircraft contract.
Ensure the team delivers the AISR programmes to their best conclusion.
Work with Customer and Stakeholders to agree tasking and ensure the Airborne Engineering team performs activities to support on-going operations with agreed plans.
Establish common and coherent practices and leadership on all Engineering aspects of the ‘in- service’ contract.
With potential future growth of the role to support new programme start-ups and bids including the potential to work on other AISR programmes with colleagues at different RTN facilities.
Responsibilities include:
Generation of Engineering development plans and execution against Raytheon standards and ensure alignment to the overall Programme needs final delivery.
Work package management including planning, tracking and reporting of key performance indicators. Working collaboratively with the Programme Manager and Programme Team.
Line management of a multi-discipline (electronics, mechanical, software, systems and design authorities), including resource planning, performance management, goal setting, appraisals, reward, recognition and timesheets.
Management of Engineering work packages, including Requirements and Design baselines and associated configuration management.
Close liaison with the Design Authority to ensure the technical integrity of programmes
Ensure adherence to challenging schedules and costs, using Earned Value techniques.
Risk Management for Engineering deliverables, including effective mitigation of risk or closure.
Ensure all phases of the engineering lifecycle are subject to Peer Review and Gate Review in accordance with the development plan and that problems and issues are resolved in a timely and effective manner
Ensure all documentation, specifications and deliverables are completed in accordance with the programme delivery milestones, including correct Design Certifications.
To be the technical point of contact and liaison for key customer organisations, management of programme contractors & sub-contractors.
Establishing and implementing process improvement across engineering and the business as agreed with Head of Business and Head of Function.
Supporting Business Development in the securing new business and setting strategy.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Skills:
Proven technical expertise and management on aviation programmes with knowledge and experience of related disciplines.
Understanding of Programme Management and scheduling.
Experience and knowledge of managing and motivating a diverse group of engineers.
Working experience of civil and/or military airworthiness design and maintenance regulations.
Ability to work closely with others in a small team in high pressure environments.
Excellent time management, organisation and prioritisation skills.
Eligible for or Holder of current SC security clearance with the potential to progress to DV clearance should this be required (Raytheon UK will sponsor as required).
Desirable Skills:
Experience with airborne mission systems.
Proven record of successfully supporting and delivering Aircraft programmes.
Clear understanding of financial management.
A high level of competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Flexibility to travel / work extended hours to support meetings.
Qualifications:
Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or a numerate subject desirable but not essential.
APMP or Prince 2 useful but not essential.
Typical Experience:
We are looking for candidates from an Engineering background, preferably in an aeronautical or similar highly regulated environment.
A military, government or avionics systems, Information Technology and Information Security 'best practice' background would be beneficial.
Desirable:
Commodity and / or platform knowledge
Understanding of technical requirements
