Job Description
Role Summary:
The EHS Specialist is responsible for maintaining a robust EHS program to ensure compliance with regulatory and GE Aviation requirements. Active member of the EHS and Services team, providing support to leaders, engineers, technicians, and other functional teams. Provide technical advice, develop plans and effectively implement EHS regulatory and business commitments.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide technical advice, develop plans, and execute on environmental, health, or industrial safety (EHS) challenges and issues
Be part of the operations team focused on EHS program development, implementation, and improvement
Sustain excellence in EHS and safety culture
Maintain in-depth knowledge of applicable business and regulatory requirements
Support necessary programs to assure compliance with industrial safety, ergonomics, chemical safety, and environmental protection requirements
Provide support and guidance to supervisors and employee Safety Teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory and EHS program requirements
Assist in modifications of EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance
Conduct EHS training courses for assigned program areas
Lead Injury & Illness tracking and case management
Support project management in assigned areas to ensure regulatory compliance
Evaluate facility EHS conditions, assess risks, analyze trends and performance
Develop and implement appropriate corrective-action / continuous improvement plans
Support assigned area by conducting injury / accident / incident investigations, and follow-up on safety concerns
Drive timely and effective closure of corrective / preventive actions
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with regulatory agencies
Track progress against EHS metrics and goals
Drive EHS compliance to ensure completion and accurate recording of EHS metrics, including training, audit findings, inspections, etc.
Work cooperatively with EHS HQ on assigned projects and initiatives
Implement GE Frameworks requirements specific to assigned areas
This includes, but not limited to, Risk Assessments, Safety Defenses, Exposure Defenses, Environmental Defenses, and Dangerous Goods
Act as a member of the Emergency Response team; maintain qualifications and support position specific training as well as drills and exercises
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in EHS
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT(S):
- Ability and willingness to wear required personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses and respiratory protection in accordance with operational requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel to support remote sites (10%)
Desired Characteristics:
Master’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or other related EHS/Engineering field from a regionally accredited college or university
Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist or other EHS certification credentials
Experience supporting radiation safety programs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface at all levels of the organization, as well as organizations outside of GE (regulatory agencies)
Knowledge of federal, state and local EHS regulations and codes/standards
Experience implementing manufacturing EHS programs
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)/Global Star experience
Strong computer and database skills, including Microsoft Suite
Experience with case management and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills
Cross-functional supervisory or project leadership experience
Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification or equivalent quality certification
