Business Development M&A Manager (United Income)

As one of the fastest growth wealth management firms in the country, we’re expanding quickly and are now looking for an experienced business development candidate to help us grow.

The ideal candidate is ambitious, knowledgeable about the wealth management industry, and is a seasoned business development professional skilled at building relationships and closing partnerships. The Business Development Manager will work with our team to identify leads and cultivate relationships with financial advisors interested in merging or partnering with United Income.

The Profile We’re Looking For

Candidates should be skilled at business development, knowledgeable about the investment industry, and have strong interpersonal and organizational skills. In particular, the ideal candidate will be expected to:

  • Drive new growth opportunities through proactive, outbound business development activities, including but not limited to cold-calling, email campaigns, and attending industry conferences
  • Nurture leads throughout sales process, e.g. educate them about United Income’s value proposition, facilitate conversations with executives, and answer key questions
  • Delight advisors with a high level of respect and service, over delivering on expectations
  • Collaborate with broader United Income organization to effectively deliver new business proposals and term sheet presentations
  • Utilize UI’s Salesforce CRM instance to track prospects and provide business partners with key metrics

Company Overview

United Income is an RIA headquartered in Washington, DC with $750M of assets under management. Spun out of Morningstar in 2016 and acquired by Capital One in July 2019, we pair financial advisors with new technology we’ve invented to lower clients’ taxes, boost retirement benefits, and improve the quality of investment management, in part by simulating not only market outcomes but also potential life outcomes.

As of June 2019, we have 99 percent client retention, and 88 percent of clients have had their fees reduced (since our technology lowers our operating costs, which we share with our clients). We also have attracted over 200 media stories about the company’s wealth-building innovations and thought leadership, including a Forbes article that said we have “an all-star team.” Our team includes numerous PhD’s in economics from Harvard and other top universities – some of whom have also served in senior roles at Treasury, Social Security Administration, Centers on Medicare and Medicaid, or the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and all of whom are too humble to mention those accomplishments. We all are united to use new technology to increase the financial potential of our customers in ways that have not been possible in the past.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years of financial services or consulting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the wealth management world; existing industry relationships preferred, but not required
  • Proven success building a strong pipeline of new business opportunities and effectively closing on opportunities in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated knowledge and facilitation of sales cycle / process
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and listening communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and collaborative
  • Multi-tasker in a fast-paced environment with a can-do personality
  • Salesforce experience preferred
