The Role

Tesla’s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This position involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback into our design
• Conduct Supplier Assessments
• Conduct and implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback into our design
• Verify subcomponent and final assembly FMEAs, Control Plan, Process CTQs, Inspection criteria and plan
• Drive fault analysis with suppliers and effectively close them with 8Ds
• Ensure suppliers On Time Delivery performance
• Ensure Supplier Production Capacity and Quality i.e. Operations is maintained to support demand
• Supplier Production Capacity (Operations management).
• Lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality
• Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams
• Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations.
• Collaborate with Tesla Design, Quality, and Manufacturing to determine the ideal performance specifications and supplier metrics.
• Accountable for leading, tracking and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes.
• Guide suppliers in developing exceptionally robust processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high quality products.
• Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers.
• Provide input on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or evidence of experience and exceptional ability.
• Practical experience of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design For Assembly (DFA)
• At least 5 years of work experience either as a Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineer
• Knowledge of optical device integration and manufacturing processes
• Practical experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design For Assembly (DFA), DFMEA, PFMEA, MSA is a must
• Experience with processes of lens manufacturing, lens assembly and camera/optic module assembly
• Understanding of Active Alignment machines and chart design criteria is desired
• Working knowledge of lens design and sensitivity analysis, SFR and experience with Trioptics machines is desired
• Previous projects with application of 6sigma methodology
• Good knowledge of SPC and implementation of statistical tools.
• Practical experience of statistical tolerance analysis, assessment of design characteristics and improvement techniques
• Past experience with Tooling Validation experience is desired
• Supplier development and management experience
• Excellent spoken and written English, Mandarin preferred
• Domestic and international travel (expected 50% of the time) is required to engage with CMs, sometimes on short notice
